I’m probably sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong, but I’m curious about this new approach to development.
I’ve been subscribed to the project’s commit updates for years, so I’ve been able to follow its evolution at a high level without digging too deeply into the details. I’ve even occasionally taken the initiative to fix or improve something myself.
The thing is, over the past few months, I’ve noticed a dramatic increase in the number of commits on the next branch, seemingly driven by AI. I understand that, in the world we live in today, not using these kinds of tools means falling behind.
However, what I’m seeing is that, despite being in the RC phase, it’s just one fix after another, followed by performance improvements, then more fixes, more performance improvements, and so on...
At the same time, the size of the source code has doubled in just two months (from rc.0 to rc.15). Commits that used to be fairly easy to understand at a glance, without much digging, have now turned into a documented maze.
I want to stress that I’m not trying to stir up any controversy. I just wanted to share something I’ve been observing for months.
