Using air and Ark #1648

Closed as not planned

Description

@waynelapierre

Is it possible to use air as the language server and formatter and Ark as the console? They appear pretty polished now. Using them allows for consistent R programming experiences between VSCode and Positron.

    @eitsupi perhaps this issue can be added to the 4.0.0 milestone? Or closed as duplicate?

    Regarding LSP (Air, and now called "Oak"), I opened #1749, so could you please check that?

    Ark, the Jupyter kernel, requires communication via ZQM, which I don't think is within the scope of vscode-R.
    I think we should use a different Jupyter client.

    Could you try arf as a general-purpose R console?
    (Just to clarify, arf's core is a copy of ark, and since it doesn't use ZQM, it might be easier to use as a console than ark.)

    FWIW: The VSCode / Positron friction in formatting was also a concern for me, which is why I implemented an experimental Code OSS extension to format code with {styler} if you want to use {styler} everywhere, in case you prefer it over Air: https://github.com/lorenzwalthert/styler-for-positron.
