Canonical data viewer does not work

Describe the bug

Running view(df) loads an ugly, pop-up data viewer instead of the canonical data viewer promised here.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Go to an R script in VS Code / Open R terminal or Radian terminal
run View(mtcars)
See the ugly Window in the screenshot popping up outside VS Code

Expected behavior
The canonical data viewer launches

Environment (please complete the following information):

OS: Windows 11
VSCode Version: 1.132.1
R Version: 4.6.1
vscode-R version: 2.8.8

Did you install httpgd?

I'm facing the same issue on Mac OS Tahoe 26.6.2 with both plots and data views being rendered by quartz. But i have languageserver and httpgd installed, as one should.

I did not but after I installed it and restarted it did not make any difference.

So, this solution worked for me: #1696 (comment)
You need to find the init.R of the vscode-R extension. I can only assume where that would be on Windows:

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\.vscode-R\init.R

Paste this path in the search bar (center top) of your VSCode window, after entering your real username that is. If the file opens, modify its content according to the post I linked. Instead of deleting some lines entirely I would simply comment them out, but it should work either way.
