Github copilot Sonnet 4 - AI_APICallError the requested model is not supported #1125
changed the title [-]Github copilot - AI_APICallError the requested model is not supported[/-][+]Github copilot Sonnet 4 - AI_APICallError the requested model is not supported[/+]on Jul 18, 2025
I found out what the issue was. If you’ve subscribed to GitHub Copilot but have never used it in VS Code with the extension, you’ll get this message prompting you to enable access to the third-party model (You'll need to allow it for Anthropic and Gemini) to do that you'll need to select one of the providers models and send a message and then it'll prompt you.

Hello, I think this issue should be reopened.
I’ve tested this on both the Copilot Pro and Pro+ plans (re-authenticated each time), but I still get the error:
"The requested model is not supported"
This happens with:
Models that are working for me:
I'd assume both plans should work as they offer prett much the same models expect Pro+ offers o3 and Opus 4

Alternatively, you can go to your settings and enable them https://github.com/settings/copilot/features
It might be worth adding this to FAQ, but I could just be an edge case
