Significant startup lag (blank screen) in Ubuntu #14167

Closed as not planned
Closed as not planned

Description

@probecat

Description

Significant delay (blank screen) upon startup before UI becomes interactive. Additionally, see the attached screencast.

This bug has been bothering me since around 1.1x with each update seems to worsen it.

Running with --print-logs and --log-level DEBUG did not yield anything useful to explain several seconds delay.

Plugins

None

OpenCode version

1.2.6

Steps to reproduce

  1. Remove any residual files:
    gio trash ~/.opencode/ ~/.local/share/opencode/ ~/.config/opencode/
  2. Do a fresh install:
    bun install -g opencode-ai
    (Note: The blank screen duration seems even more notable with npm installations.)
  3. Launch opencode without any plugins, MCPs, or custom configurations.

    Have the same issue on MacOs running Ghostty and version 1.2.1

    @clotodex

    Same on linux, 1.2.6. But not in every project
    I temporarily fixed it with an old .opencode folder
    It seems like something is broken in there. Copying over a folder from where opencode was working solves the issue.
    This is very weird and feels like there is some corruption or infinite load or sth going on.

    Actually investigating the dev.log I found
    INFO 2026-02-20T08:37:15 +675020ms service=plugin path=opencode-anthropic-auth@0.0.13 loading plugin
    So it spent ages loading this plugin. Is there potentially a way to disable internal plugins? Not even using anthropic

    I also found the same problem, it's caused by loading this plugin.
