Updating OpenCode desktop app breaks opencode CLI on macOS #16532
Description
Description
After updating the OpenCode desktop application on macOS, the opencode CLI stopped working.
Running: opencode upgrade
resulted in: zsh: killed opencode upgrade
and after that even: opencode --version was immediately killed.
The bundled binary inside the updated app still worked: /Applications/OpenCode.app/Contents/MacOS/opencode-cli
but the CLI binary at: ~/.opencode/bin/opencode was no longer usable.
macOS crash logs showed:
- SIGKILL (Code Signature Invalid)
- termination: CODESIGNING / Invalid Page
This looks like the desktop app update leaves the separately installed CLI in a broken or invalid state, or replaces it in a way that breaks code signing.
Workaround
Replacing the broken CLI with the app-bundled binary fixed it:
cp -f /Applications/OpenCode.app/Contents/MacOS/opencode-cli ~/.opencode/bin/opencode
Environment
- macOS 26.3
- Apple Silicon
- OpenCode CLI/Desktop version: 1.2.21
Plugins
none
OpenCode version
1.2.21
Steps to reproduce
- Install OpenCode desktop on macOS.
- Update the desktop app to a newer version.
- Open Terminal and run opencode upgrade.
- Observe that the process is killed with zsh: killed opencode upgrade.
- Run opencode --version and observe that the CLI is also immediately killed.
