BUG: dumps system prompt in an infinite loop for absolutely no reason. #1682

prompt: another option is to build from the first version up to the target
version. for that, we can just fetch the first .file patch (is_patch ==
false), which is the earliest version and then apply forward patches up
to the target version. what would this change? give me an efficiency
analysis and comparison.
