bug: immediately exits and other processes never exit #2380
Description
This has happened to me several times already, and I've had kill all terminals (I've been using both ghostty and iterm2 on macos) or restart my machine to solve it.
I haven't been able to pinpoint when, but sometimes opencode exits immediately after being started, and multiple other opencode processes (from other sessions) are left running and won't exit and can't be killed.
This is what it looks like:

In this case I've tried opening opencode from iterm, from tmux within iterm, from ghostty, and from within Cursor, and nothing works.
Only once I completely closed all of the above, was I able to re-open iterm2/ghostty/cursor and open opencode again.
This has happened so many times I wanted to file a bug report, but I'm sorry I don't have more information about when it seems to happen.
This has been happening randomly for a couple of weeks now.
It still happened when I used opencode only from within iterm2, before I started using ghostty, tmux, and opencode within Cursor.

can you share anything else about your setup? What os are you and do you have any mcp servers or special configs going on? Haven't seen anyone else report this

I'm using macOS Sequoia Version 15.6.1 (24G90).
I don't have any MCP servers.
I'm using the claude code subscription as the provider.
I haven't configure opencode in any specific way: I really just installed it, authenticated with claude code, and have been using it just like that.
Is there anything I can run next time it happens to try to help debug?

You could send you latest log file, it would be in ~/.local/share/opencode/log/....
If the process is getting killed it may not have errors in there but it doesn't hurt

Oo another thing, what kind of projects are you working in? Does this happen in a really large rust project? or something like that? Could have something to do with an LSP server eating too much memory

I was working on a a fullstack bun project, and a front-end only gatsby project.
It's happened several times on the fullstack bun project, and on another remix project I've been working on.
None of the projects are particularly large. The last time it happened I was only working on the gatsby project, and that one is definitely not large at all (3 typescript files with jsx components)

Just close all opencode sessions (or
killall opencode) and then it worked!** PROBLEM: **
Same here - I have two instances of opencode running from yesterday, but I can't open another - immediate killed. MacOs gave me this report. Installed via bun,
Last logs: (unrelated to startup tries but just to be sure)
since then no logs, even if I spin up the

I had the same behavior with Termius and I switched to WezTerm to no longer have the problem

I have run into this error a couple times, however simply killing all instances hasn't fixed the issue for me.

Don't know if this is relevant but I updated the cli using the opencode desktop app to install it.
started getting
zsh: killed opencode. Tried killing all opencode processes to no avail.What worked: I ran a prompt on the desktop app and the cli started working again
I can't find logs specific to the desktop app, my log files in
~/.local/share/opencode/logonly have entries from the cligithub-actions commentedon May 25, 2026
