[FEATURE TUI]: Terminal-native progress indicator #24807

Closed as not planned
Closed as not planned

Description

@tnglemongrass

Feature hasn't been suggested before.

  • I have verified this feature I'm about to request hasn't been suggested before.

Describe the enhancement you want to request

ConEmu as well as Windows Terminal support indicating "progress" by temporarily switching to a spinner icon in the terminal tab and the TaskBar. Github Copilot CLI makes use of it.

Here is described how to set/unset it, and also an animation showing how it looks like:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/terminal/tutorials/progress-bar-sequences

Idea:

  • activate spinner, when requests to the backend start
  • deactivate spinner, when the (streaming-) request finished

Basically, spinning == the LLM is working, not spinning == waiting for user-input.
The question tool should NOT show up as spinning!

Especially in multi-tab workflows, it would be much easier to spot when a terminal tab "finished" and waits for user input.

    @japperJ

    please revisit this :)

    Would be nice to have: Spinner on Terminal tab in Windows
    in opencode and opencodev2
    if you have multiple tab running is would be nice to see the active ones
