[FEATURE TUI]: Shortcut for next / previous session #25269

Description

@tnglemongrass

Feature hasn't been suggested before.

  • I have verified this feature I'm about to request hasn't been suggested before.

Describe the enhancement you want to request

I propose to add keybinds to allow configuring shortcuts to switch to next or previous session:

n -> next session
p -> previous session

Additionally, it would fit to have a leader-style shortcut for create new session (currently on <leader>n):

c -> create session

This would be similar to gnu screen and tmux, where there are shortcuts to switch to next/previous session with the leader key:

GNU screen:
Ctrl+a n -> next screen
Ctrl+a p -> previous screen
Ctrl+a c -> create new screen

tmux:
Ctrl+b n -> next pane
Ctrl+b p -> previous pane
Ctrl+b c -> create new pane

Acceptance:

  • There are at least hooks session_next and session_previous, with or without default keybindings assigned
  • Optional: decide whether current default keybindings for n (session_new) and c (session_compact) could be better aligned to be consistent with screen/tmux behavior

    This is not about broken shortcuts. It is about making functionality accessible via keybindings ("feature request").
