Describe the enhancement you want to request

Hi,

I think OpenCode could really stand out by introducing a decentralized Extension Library system instead of relying on a single marketplace.

users could connect multiple extension sources freely GitHub repos, Open VSX, self-hosted registries, MCP hubs, private company registries, and community catalogs while keeping full control over what is installed and active locally.

the experience should stay lightweight and developer-focused. Adding a new source should take seconds, and every extension should clearly show where it comes from, who maintains it, its permissions, compatibility, trust level, and update status.

visually, I imagine something minimal and modern, close to terminal-first AI IDEs with searchable registries, modular panels, and smooth native-feeling extension management.

i think this approach would fit OpenCode perfectly and could position it as a true open-source alternative to more closed AI coding platforms.

Have a nice day,

Alexander

Automated issue cleanup: closing as duplicate of #28696.

We are consolidating marketplace/registry/package-distribution requests there so one master issue tracks discovery, install, update, trust, and management for plugins/extensions, agents, skills, MCPs, commands, and other shareable OpenCode ecosystem assets.
