[FEATURE]: live context usage bar in the TUI #32640

Closed

Description

@chrislitality-svg

i know there's /cost and the number in the corner but i'd love to see a small progress bar that shows how much of the context window i'm using up in real time

like a thin colored bar somewhere in the session view that fills up as tokens get used. blue when it's fine, turns amber around 70%, red near 90%. would help me know when to compact or wrap up before hitting the limit

this is different from #32619 which is about a desktop plugin - i'm talking about a baked-in TUI element. also diffrent from #32485 which is about currency config, not the visual bar itself

maybe it could sit in the footer area or as a thin strip at the top of the chat panel. doesn't need to be fancy, just visual feedback on context pressure

    This is supported through the TUI plugin API. @streetturtle/opencode-context-progress (https://github.com/streetturtle/opencode-better-sidebar/tree/main/plugins/context-progress) adds a color-coded context usage bar with token count, model window, and session cost:

    opencode plugin --global @streetturtle/opencode-context-progress@1.0.0

    Provider-reported token usage is available after each model step, so the bar updates at those boundaries rather than for every streamed token. Truly in-flight estimated token telemetry is tracked separately in #29909.
