[FEATURE]: : Enable OpenCode Desktop to use WSL environment settings #5718
I have verified this feature I'm about to request hasn't been suggested before.
Describe the enhancement you want to request
OpenCode Desktop currently requires installation/execution via Windows PowerShell and defaults to native Windows settings. It does not recognize or follow the configuration set up within OpenCode in WSL.
Both issues address the need for OpenCode Desktop to work with WSL environments on Windows. #5635 provides detailed implementation proposals for enabling WSL backend support in the Desktop app.
VSCode and Antigravity appear to work with WSL without issues. I installed OpenCode in WSL and configured everything and then installing the desktop app for Windows none of the config was used. It would be great to have this working similar to other IDEs. That way all of the tooling (npm, bun, etc.) can work seamlessly as expected without installing additional ones.
in wsl 2 and it did work, the project did open in OpenCode desktop just fine
the path under windows on my pc is C:\Users\tunknown\AppData\Local\OpenCode\OpenCode.exe
OpenCode.exe is the opencode Desktop
UPDATE: after testing it can read files, it can plan but it can't update because it can't build , i think
This one hasn't been closed, though. And I'm very interested in having this. Why wouldn't that be a thing already? The architecture clearly was built for this usecase. It's a part of the reason why I want to continue using OpenCode in Windows too, not just TUI: the UI seems very pretty and more user-friendly on Windows. My whole workflow already revolves around WSL, and both Zed and JetBrains are configured for WSL everywhere. Every project has a Docker environment, running under WSL. This is so convenient with at least basic support that I'm sure most engineers like myself who are on Windows either already do this or they should start - and why there isn't really a good reason anymore not to use Windows (if you're already on it). I would really love this to be a thing in OpenCode too! Such a great product with a lot of potential.

@XedinUnknown I just found out they attached instructions here: https://opencode.ai/docs/windows-wsl/#desktop-app--wsl-server
I tried it before, you can take a look at it

@vuhungthang, that's exactly the article I followed, which brought me here. It says:
Connect how? Where is the config file or the settings screen, where I enter the server URL?

I think this is the option you are missing
Something confused to me was how to open a project. Not sure, but using the WSL path
\\wsl.localhost\...seems the right way to avoid issues.
