Is it possible to do something like this with OC?

    Good question. At the moment, OC doesn’t support true async or background delegation to a separate coding agent in the same way IntelliJ’s Copilot “Delegate to Coding Agent” works.

    The best one can do today is invoke tools or agents one after another within the same flow of execution, but they stay blocking and user-driven, rather than autonomous background activities.

    I think the related issue #5887 True Async/Background Sub-Agent Delegation closely describes this feature request, especially around spawning sub-agents that can work autonomously while the main session continues. If the above proposal lands, it would likely enable workflows similar to what Copilot is offering in IntelliJ.

    As a workaround today, users typically:
    Manual division of work in several sessions/agents, or

    • Use external automation/scripts to simulate running in the background. Quick answer: not yet, but it’s a known and actively discussed gap.

    Thanks for the responses guys...

    Now that I'm actually aware we can do plugins for OC, I'm thinking maybe I can add this feat myself via a custom plugin. Don't know, gotta check it out!

    @m10rten

    Simplest native OC without plugins at this moment would be to create a router or delegate or orchestrate agent that knows when to use what subagent (primary,subagent,all).

    This saves the complexity from writing your own plugin.

    I did see: https://github.com/code-yeongyu/oh-my-opencode/ which does support it.

    Actually... I just discovered this 🤦🏻

    Maybe this was all I needed? 🤷🏻

    Will check that one.
