Description

The opencode run command fails immediately with "Session not found" error. This affects all variations of the command.

Environment

  • opencode version: 1.1.16
  • macOS (Apple Silicon)
  • Installed via Homebrew

Reproduction Steps

# Basic usage
opencode run "Hello"
# Output: Error: Session not found

# With model
opencode run "Hello" -m anthropic/claude-haiku-4-5-20251001
# Output: Error: Session not found

# With agent
opencode run "Hello" --agent build-haiku
# Output: Error: Session not found

# From clean directory
cd /tmp && opencode run "Hello"
# Output: Error: Session not found

# With explicit port
opencode run "Hello" --port 14567
# Output: Error: Session not found

Debug Logs

Running with --print-logs shows:

INFO  ... service=file.watcher platform=darwin backend=fs-events watcher backend
ERROR ... service=server error= failed
Error: Session not found

Note the empty error message in service=server error= failed.

Expected Behavior

The command should start a new session and process the message.

Impact

This prevents:

  • Non-interactive/scripted use of opencode
  • CI/CD integrations
  • Programmatic invocation of specific agents

    Can u show me output of which opencode

    Are you sure you aren't accidentally passing a flag somewhere? Maybe in an alias or something?

    I cant replicate

    Seeing a similar issue on 1.1.20 with opencode run - I believe its related to OPENCODE_SERVER_USERNAME / OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORD (#8179 might have incomplete coverage)

    Had a similar issue today, fixed it by unsetting the server password. Might be useful to give provide more info for basic stuff like auth failures.

    Adding a data point — still reproducing on v1.2.10 (macOS, Apple Silicon, Homebrew).

    We're building an SDK (AgentField) that dispatches tasks to coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode) via a unified .harness() API. OpenCode is invoked as a subprocess using opencode run -m <model> <prompt> — the same pattern used in our other project af-swe.

    What we tried (all fail identically):

    • Clean HOME directory (fresh db, no user config, no plugins)
    • Various --dir paths
    • With/without --format json
    • With/without -m <model>

    Debug logs consistently show:

    ERROR service=server error= failed
Error: Session not found

    The internal server fails to initialize (empty error string), so sdk.session.create() returns undefined and the run command exits.

    We have 10 unit tests mocked and passing for the OpenCode provider, but functional tests are blocked on this. Our PR is shipping with OpenCode marked as xfail for now.

    Would love to see this fixed — opencode run is the primary integration point for headless/automation use cases.
