OpenCode Zen GPT-5.2 Codex install model fails (ProviderModelNotFoundError) #8587

Closed as not planned

Description

@justcarlson

Repro (from opencode github install):

  1. Install flow: Provider = OpenCode Zen, Model = GPT-5.2 Codex. Installer adds .github/workflows/opencode.yml with model: opencode/gpt-5.2-codex.
  2. Action fails with ProviderModelNotFoundError.
  3. https://opencode.ai/zen/v1/models lists gpt-5.2-codex.
  4. Switching workflow to model: gpt-5.2-codex fails: "Model must be in the format provider/model".

Expected: the installer should emit a model string that both passes CLI validation and resolves, or the models endpoint should return provider-prefixed IDs consistent with the CLI.

    I have Zen set up with an API key in my repo, so it should have recognized the model ID opencode/gpt-5.2-codex. Odd.

    @rekram1-node Same with Copilot, I have the model enabled, but it just won't work.

    I'd like to work on this. The root cause is a race condition: Provider.state() resolves from the bundled snapshot before the background ModelsDev.refresh() completes, so models added to models.dev after the snapshot was built aren't found. Fix tracks the initial refresh promise and awaits it before computing provider state.
