Register new templates are not download on new deployment #11341
If the system VMs are not created immediately, the registered templates, when you enable the Zon,e are not downloaded (left in Active state)
The NFS service wasn't running on my agent host, and the system VMs were not created immediately. After fixing the problem, the templates are left in an Active state.

The steps to reproduce the bug
On a new deployment, after the zone configuration is complete, a new window appears allowing you to select which templates to register.
Before enabling the zone, stop the NFS service on the agent host.
Then, enable the zone — CloudStack will attempt to create the system VMs.
After a few retries to create the SSVM, start the NFS service on the agent host.
Once the system virtual machines are successfully created and running, the request that should download the templates is not being triggered.
@shwstppr, in my case, the templates never started downloading while the SSVM was running. The issue turned out to be with the NFS service on the host. CloudStack attempted to recreate the SSVM around 10 times before I resolved the problem. Once the system VMs were running properly, the templates remained in the "Active" state — and they still are, as I'm continuing to work in the same environment.
Hi @slavkap@DaanHoogland@rohityadavcloud - as per my testing on 4.21 RC1, after Basic zone addition I can still see the issue. In my tests the only templates that got into Ready state were the default CentOS and System VM template. The other selected templates failed with No route to host and remain in Not Ready state:
4.21 RC2 contains a fix for Advanced zone creations, will verify but I suspect the same issue may still be present
@DaanHoogland, sorry for the late reply. No I use only to skip the test flag when packaging.
Thank you for testing this @nvazquez! I forgot to metion here that I'm using in this case basic zone.
Hi all, with RC5, the templates were downloaded. I'll try to find time to check this on 4.20 and will open another issue if there is a problem. Closing this one

@slavkap can you check this in 4.20 ?
slavkap commentedon Jul 30, 2025
@sureshanaparti, I'll try, but I don't have much time today

@slavkap The cloud-imagae template only gets downloaded when the ssvm is in running state
slavkap commentedon Jul 30, 2025
@kiranchavala, yes, I know, but this leaves only garbage in cases like this
shwstppr commentedon Jul 31, 2025
Not sure but will restarting the SSVM will start the download of such templates? @kiranchavala @slavkap
yadvr commentedon Jul 31, 2025
Sounds like a bug, templates should not be in Ready state when ssvm isn’t available and should trigger to be downloaded once an ep is available.

I am not sure where we discussed that, but did you build the stack with simulator enabled @slavkap ?

After adding Advanced zone on 4.21 RC2 I'm not hitting the issue, perhaps I've done something wrong while adding the Basic zone, will double check
DaanHoogland commentedon Aug 19, 2025
@slavkap could you check this in 4.20 and on latest main to pinpoint it?
