A few Unicode math characters render differently from their command (√, ∛, ∑, ∏, ∫, ′, ², ₂) #3100
Environment: mathlive 0.111.0, convertLatexToMathMl from mathlive/ssr.
Nearly all Unicode math characters render the same as their command: Greek, relations, arrows, binary operators and the blackboard letters give the same MathML as the command (convertLatexToMathMl), and a field holds the character as typed (value is ω, not \omega).
Different MathML from the command:
Unicode
command
what differs
√{2}
\sqrt{2}
mrow(mi √, mn 2), not msqrt (no radical bar)
∛{2}
\sqrt[3]{2}
mrow(mi ∛, mn 2), not mroot
∑_{k=1}^{n}k, ∏, ∫_0^1 x
\sum…, \prod…, \int…
the glyph is an mi, where the command's is an mo (a big operator: no limits, no large form)
f′, f″
f^{\prime}, f^{\prime\prime}
mi ′ after f, not an msup
x², x₂
x^2, x_2
x mi ^ mn 2: the character becomes a literal ^ and the digit, not a script
The first three rows are the ones that matter: a user who types or pastes √ or ∑ means the construct, and gets the glyph. Mapping √, ∛, ∑, ∏, ∫ to their commands on parse would fix typing and pasting; for convertLatexToMathMl and convertLatexToMarkup it is a step before the parser.
