during a PUT. HEAD to locator = 404. HEAD to other server correctly shows 404. this server doesn't even register the 404. I'd expect a 5xx at least

Also worth noting dst.write() still runs on the event
loop — suspect F1 in performance-investigation-2026-07-08.md. A 64 MiB buffer doesn't increase total blocking time but does make each
flush a longer single stall, so per-request latency spikes under concurrency may be more visible than before. Candidates for a follow-up
issue if you want them.
