Description
Phase 3 of design #1554 (filed by the design architect, 2026-10-27). Design doc: files/designs/code-mcpx-tasks-one-store.md in the keep-the-four-repos-healthy goal workspace.
DEPENDENCY GATE: do not start until Phase 1 (one durable store across MCP and /v1) and Phase 2 (client task execution for taskSupport: "required") of #1554 are both merged — this phase records final facts, and facts recorded early become the next staleness bug. If claimed before both land, park naming the missing phase.
Framing (from #1554): dezren39/darwin-nix#209 is the origin issue for the whole tasks design (cross-repo set rule: one issue tracks the set; the backlog moved to this repo per #309, and mcpx's canonical home is here). This phase closes the set out — it does not file any per-repo duplicate.
Scope
- Rewrite the affected rows of
pkgs/mcpx/docs/compare/register/tasks.mdto the as-built state — at minimum TASK-03, TASK-04, TASK-05, TASK-06, TASK-07, TASK-08, TASK-11, TASK-12, TASK-13, TASK-14, TASK-15, TASK-18, TASK-20, TASK-22, TASK-24, TASK-27 — each with the code evidence (file/symbol) that establishes it, following the register's existing row format. Rows that remain genuinely open (e.g. TASK-23 ID entropy, if still 64-bit) stay marked open and point at design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554's open questions. - Same for the tasks rows of
pkgs/mcpx/docs/compare/register/capabilities.md: CAP-21, CAP-22, CAP-24, CAP-25, CAP-26 (both directions — server rows landed earlier; the client direction lands with Phase 2). - Retire any remaining
internal/conformanceGapentries that Phases 1–2 closed (Phase 1 retiresext-tasks-durable-before-response; verify none of the other feat(web): compile Roc sources from world page #209-pointing gaps —tasks-get-implies-list,tasks-failed-status-message,tasks-document-unbound,tasks-rate-limit,tasks-resource-limits,tasks-audit,ext-tasks-cancel-cooperative— were silently closed; those that remain open stay, and still point at the right place once nix#209 closes: repoint them to design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554). - Update the
planning/roadmaps/mcpx.mdNext row "Tasks, which are advertised and not implemented" to link design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554 and reflect completion. - Post the completion evidence on mcpx: tasks — the 2026 extension is advertised and not implemented; core tasks are unbound and live in two stores dezren39/darwin-nix#209 (what landed, in which PRs, register rows updated) and close it; post the matching completion note on design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554.
Acceptance
- Register rows listed above match current main, each verifiable from the cited code evidence (spot-checkable: pick any row, the cited symbol shows the claimed behaviour).
- No conformance
Gapentry still cites nix#209 for work that has landed; open gaps are repointed to design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554. planning/roadmaps/mcpx.mdtasks row updated.- mcpx: tasks — the 2026 extension is advertised and not implemented; core tasks are unbound and live in two stores dezren39/darwin-nix#209 closed with an evidence comment naming the landing PRs; completion note posted on design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554.
Out of scope: any implementation work (Phases 1–2 own it); the open questions on #1554 (limits, cooperative cancel, audit, ID entropy, input relay) — they stay questions on the design issue.
Acceptance criteria
- Gate verified at claim time: Phases 1 and 2 of design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554 are merged; otherwise parked naming the missing phase.
-
docs/compare/register/tasks.mdand the CAP-21/22/24/25/26 rows incapabilities.mddescribe the as-built state with code evidence. - Landed conformance gaps retired; still-open gaps repointed from nix#209 to design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554.
- Roadmap row updated; nix#209 closed with evidence; completion note on design(mcpx): tasks, finished — one task store for MCP and /v1, and a client that can call task-required tools #1554.

agent-note:v1 — task 4299 resumed by lane B worker (repo-worker-code). PR #3086 @ c1767aa revalidated fresh: Codex review completed, no findings; laptop targeted tests re-run first-hand this shift: go test ./internal/mcpclient/ ./internal/mcpserver/ both ok; gaps in coverage_stateful.go verified repointed to #1554 with none citing nix#209; git diff --check clean. CI checks remain queued in the fleet runner backlog (none failed). Merging on the verified change, then posting the #1554 set-closure evidence to dezren39/darwin-nix#209 and #1554 per #1557 acceptance.

agent-note:v1 — task 4299 complete: PR #3086 squash-merged (68d59a3). All acceptance met: register rows truthed up with code evidence; no conformance Gap cites nix#209 (seven open gaps repointed to #1554, verified by grep); roadmap row updated; completion evidence posted on dezren39/darwin-nix#209 (already closed as moved to #1928 — evidence recorded there per acceptance) and completion note posted on #1554. Laptop targeted tests pass (mcpclient, mcpserver); Codex clean. Closing.
