Runtime-verification lane assessment: per-repo CI coverage vs static-review-missed regression classes (from #1361) #4605

Open

Description

@dezren39

Parent

Triage follow-up of #1361 (criterion 1), itself a child of epic #1334. Triage: queue task 1339.

Task

For each of the four repos (code, opencode, openchamber, nix), assess CI coverage strength against the runtime-regression classes that static PR diff review has missed (config interactions, timing/ordering effects, behavior that typechecks and reads correctly but acts wrong). Cite 2-3 concrete past examples per repo — e.g. October small_fix follow-ups for behavior a diff read as fine.

Deliverables

  1. Assessment comment posted on Reviewer scope gap: diff review is static — no runtime verification lane #1361 with a per-repo verdict: the verification lane operates there, or the record of why CI coverage makes it unnecessary there (suite strength, runtime surface, cost).
  2. Follow-up packet(s) filed for Reviewer scope gap: diff review is static — no runtime verification lane #1361 criteria 2+3 (high-risk finding class definition, reviewer-instruction update, end-to-end demo pass on one real finding) grounded in the assessment's examples — or a no-action rationale on Reviewer scope gap: diff review is static — no runtime verification lane #1361 if the record shows the lane is unnecessary everywhere.

Notes

  • Reads only against the other repos (gh API + CI config); no cross-repo writes.
  • Reviewer instruction artifacts live in fleet/goal config, not in this repo — the assessment should name the exact instruction file(s) to change so the class-definition slice has a concrete target.

    Triage verdict: the bounded runtime-verification lane is warranted in all four repos; each has runtime-only failures that either escaped relevant tests or had no pre-merge workflow coverage. The per-repo evidence and exact instruction targets are recorded on #1361. Criteria 2+3 are routed as repo-health-code-pilot task 6545 (small_fix), linked from the follow-up note. No tests were run, as required for this triage-only task.

    state: triaged (coverage pass)
    Coverage pass 2026-11-03: reviewed in the fleet-wide per-issue pass (drift / overlap / already-handled / stale / blockers / ordering). Verdict: still live; queued in repo-health-code-pilot as triage at priority 40 (priority/normal). If this is already handled at current main, the triage closes it with evidence; if it needs splitting, the triage files the split.
