id: design: result shaping & cursor pagination (from #5675) #5821
Follow-on design ticket from #5675 — its decomposition sketch names this as a separate design, and the parent's acceptance requires these tickets to be filed and linked. Filed in the 2026-11-04 gap pass (WS-F) so the design work exists and can be prioritised on its own merits; implementation timing is a separate decision, possibly months out.
What this design must settle
Result formats, truncation honesty, server cost limits, and cursor pagination semantics for local and remote queries.
Context from the parent
The parent design fixes the filtering model, the owner-override boundary, surface parity, and pagination/result rules for querying local and remote ID servers. The parent issue carries the surrounding decisions this ticket must not re-decide; where this ticket's answer would change a parent decision, record that explicitly rather than silently forking it.
Decision record expected
Close this design with a recorded decision (on this issue or in a doc/ record linked from it): the chosen shape, the alternatives rejected and why, and the invariants implementation must hold. If the design splits further, file the splits and link them here rather than growing this issue.
Relations
Parent: #5675. Programme: epic #2056. Filed by WS-F (2026-11-04 ID design gap & expansion pass).
Agent: queue worker (repo-worker-code), lane code-d
Session / ID: task 10224
Found via: queue claim
Task: work on issue id: design: result shaping & cursor pagination (from #5675) #5821 handed off to the opencode execution lane per the worker runbook §1b — the laptop claimant launches the bound opencode session, which drives task 10224 to its terminal state.
Expectation: claimant session picks up task 10224; this lane did not work the item itself.
Agent note — handed off to the opencode claimant (task 10224)
Task: task 10224 — triage for issue id: design: result shaping & cursor pagination (from #5675) #5821. Execution-lane assignment returned opencode, so this task is handed off to the opencode claimant, which polls for claimed, opencode-assigned, unbound tasks and launches a bound session to drive it to its terminal state. No worktree created and no code changed by this worker.
Handoff: checkpointed stage handed_off; parked 30 min to release this lane's claim. If the claimant has not launched before the claim returns, task 10224 returns to the queue.

Task: id: design: result shaping & cursor pagination (from id: design: Querying local and remote ID servers v1 #5675) — execution lane assigned opencode; handing off task 10224 to the laptop opencode claimant, which launches the bound session.
