Disappearing SWT Label at the bottom of a view for macOS 15 (Sequoia) #3600

Open

Description

@selundqma

Describe the bug
We have an application which we build for Windows 11 and macOS 15 and newer. We have seen an issue on macOS 15 only when it comes to one of the text labels which is placed as the last component in a composite at the bottom of the view. It works fine on both Windows 11 and macOS 26.

Environment
JRE/JDK version 25.0.4.8.1
Eclipse 4.41 (2026-09) - also seen on 2026-06

Screenshots
Please see attached screenshots for clarification. The image with the missing copyright text at the bottom is from macOS 15.

Test application
A zip file has been attached with a test program to reproduce the behavior.

Dear Eclipse team, did you have any spare time to check this out on Mac OS 15? Would be nice to at least have it confirmed. And then, of course, event better with a fix :).

I'm not a member of the Eclipse team but I like to help with Mac issues. I did try to take a look at this but there are problems:

    1. I couldn't get the example product to run at all from the LabelTest.product file. Lots of unresolved dependencies.
    2. "It works fine on...macOS 26" - macOS 15 is not really supported. If the problem doesn't occur in macOS 26 then it's unlikely to get any attention
    3. As this is the SWT project you'd be better supplying a standalone SWT snippet that reproduces the problem. You could take the SWT code from your PartView and wrap it in a standalone snippet that would be easier to consume. The process may also help you to narrow down the problem.

In fact I managed to get the sample product to run after adding as many dependencies as I could throw at it.

    • The copyright label is not visible until the app window is resized on both macOS 15 and macOS 26.
    • This is a layout issue in your code and I doubt it's a bug in SWT
    • I would suggest that you spend some time tidying up your part's composite logic - one composite is not used, pack() has no effect and there are different layouts competing with each other
    • If you set a background color on the vBottomLeftComposite Composite you'll see that it takes up all of the app's area until resized when it is forced to be the correct size

If you still see the problem, extrapolate and simplify that code into a SWT standalone snippet and attach it here.
