Add preference to configure GenericEditorContentAssistant.contextInformationPopupOrientation #4248
While working with the generic text editor, I noticed that the context information is placed below the cursor, which causes any additional shells, such as the proposal list or the additional information popup to cover the context information.
Example:
Initially only the context information is shown:
If the user triggers the proposals or starts typing, the context info is barely visible:
ContentAssistant already has the option to show the context above the cursor (which is the default) , but GenericEditorContentAssistant hard-codes this to be rendered below:
I propose to add a preference so the user can decide where the context info is shown.
Moving it to the top looks like this:
For comparison, VS Code also displays this information at the top, if there is enough space:
If there isn't enough space, it also displays the info below the cursor where it also covered by any additional popups.
I would suggest to also enhance the top-tip display. The long and small top-tip looks really bad, while the VScode one looks really good. And I have not yet looked at the corresponding code, so I currently cannot help with code questions.
I agree that the contextinfo popup should be improved overall:
Limit the initial width / height
Make the popup focusable & scrollable
Today, the popup is neither of the above, so if the displayed information is large, e.g., because it contains the documentation, the popup is also large and cannot be resized:

VScode style looks better, I think we should just implement it like this, no preference needed.
Please provide a PR for this.

Just to clarify: We should just use
