Eclipse LAN Network Permissions - MacOS 27.x #3009
This report describes a problem running a java program from Eclipse which attempts to make a LAN connection. Normally when any application attempts to make a LAN connection for the first time on MacOS you get a dialog box appear asking if you want to permit it or deny it. When Eclipse opens for the first time you are asked this question.
For the purpose of this example I am running a program which uses jsch to make a ftp connection to a server on the same LAN.
Assuming I have launched eclipse by clicking on the app name (normal startup) and then run my java program it will fail to make a connection to the ftp server - reporting "no route to host". This is despite Eclipse being granted network permissions. See image below.
If I then close Eclipse and open a terminal to where I have put the Eclipse application and run Eclipse using the Command line "./Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/eclipse" I can then open the same java program and run it without any exceptions. The LAN connection is successful. See image below.
Clearly there is a difference with the process which is launching the java program and in the first instance it seems that MacOS does not think the process owner has permissions.
I suspect that Terminal has permissions and by starting Eclipse from it means that the child process inherits the necessary permissions. If the Eclipse.app is launcher by clicking on it then something is different - maybe some other process is wrapping up the launch process and it does not have permissions.
For the moment I have created a .command file to Launch Eclipse which works around the problem but I think it would be useful to know why such differences occur.
