Add ability to retry last request manually #995

Description

@devm33

Describe the feature or problem you'd like to solve

A gesture to retry the last request when failed

Proposed solution

No response

Example prompts or workflows

No response

Additional context

The CLI retries requests up to a few times depending on the error. But in the case of transient error or client network errors, it would be helpful to have a manual gesture to retry requesting the last request

    Solution Available: Retry Plugin

    I've built a plugin that adds the /retry command you requested!

    Plugin: retry

    Live now: https://github.com/barrersoftware/copilot-plugins-registry/tree/master/plugins/retry

    What it does:

    • ✅ Automatically saves your last request
    • ✅ Simple /retry command to retry it
    • ✅ Suggests retry when errors occur
    • ✅ Works with any request type

    How to use

    import { PluginClient } from '@barrersoftware/copilot-plugins';

    const client = new PluginClient();
    await client.start();
    const session = await client.createSession();

    // Install plugin
    await session.sendAndWait({ message: '/plugins install retry' });

    // Use normally
    await session.sendAndWait({ message: 'Your complex prompt here' });
    // ❌ Request failed (network error)

    // Just type /retry!
    await session.sendAndWait({ message: '/retry' });
    // 🔄 Retrying last request...
    // ✅ Success!

    Example Output

    ⚠️  Request failed!
    💡 TIP: Type /retry to retry the last request

    > /retry

    🔄 Retrying last request...
    ✅ Success!

    Why a plugin?

    This is a temporary workaround while the GitHub team considers adding native retry support. The plugin:

    • Works TODAY (no waiting for releases)
    • Can be installed on-demand
    • Will happily be deprecated if GitHub adds official retry functionality

    Testing

    Would love feedback! Install it and let me know if it works for your use cases.
