## 🤖 Custom Agents

You can define custom agents as Markdown files with YAML frontmatter (for example, `.agent.md` files). Each agent is configured with a small set of frontmatter fields:

```yaml
---
name: deep-reviewer
description: Thorough code review agent that catches subtle bugs
model: claude-sonnet-4.5
---
You are a meticulous code reviewer...
```

| Field | Required | Description |
| ------------- | -------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `name` | Yes | Unique identifier used to invoke the agent (for example, `copilot --agent=deep-reviewer`). |
| `description` | Yes | Short summary shown when listing available agents. |
| `model` | No | Pins the model used by this agent (for example, `claude-sonnet-4.5`). When omitted, the agent inherits the session model. |

### Reasoning effort (`effort`)

> **Preview / proposed:** Runtime support for the `effort` field is tracked in [github/copilot-cli#2904](https://github.com/github/copilot-cli/issues/2904). Add it to your agent frontmatter now so it takes effect once supported.

To set a reasoning-effort level that applies only to a specific agent, add a dedicated `effort` frontmatter field, parallel to `model`:

```yaml
---
name: deep-reviewer
description: Thorough code review agent that catches subtle bugs
model: claude-sonnet-4.5
effort: high
---
You are a meticulous code reviewer...
```

```yaml
---
name: quick-lookup
description: Fast codebase explorer for simple questions
model: claude-haiku-4.5
effort: low
---
You are a fast, lightweight exploration agent...
```

**Values:** `low`, `medium` (default, matches global behavior), `high`, `xhigh`.

**Precedence:** An agent's `effort` field overrides both the global `effortLevel` user config and the `--effort` / `--reasoning-effort` CLI flag for that specific agent invocation. When unset, the agent inherits the session-level effort (current behavior, no breaking change). Models that do not support a given effort level clamp to the nearest supported level, consistent with how `--effort` behaves today.

## 🔧 Configuring LSP Servers

GitHub Copilot CLI supports Language Server Protocol (LSP) for enhanced code intelligence. This feature provides intelligent code features like go-to-definition, hover information, and diagnostics.
