Speckit autocommit vs $speckit-git-commit

I'm using Speckit with Codex. I initialized the project using specify init and followed the onscreen wizard.
The config at .specify/extensions/git/git-config.yml has all auto-commits disabled (default when generated). This is fine because I want to review changes before commiting. However, when using the Speckit slash command (or $-command for Codex) I expect the commit to be made, even with auto-commit disabled.

However, typing $speckit-git-commit gives me this:

I checked the hook config and skipped the auto-commit.
auto_commit.default is false, and after_specify is also explicitly disabled in .specify/extensions/git/git-config.yml, so there is nothing for the hook to do.

Is this the intended behavior or am I doing anything wrong here?

Yes that is expected behavior because you are asking it to execute a command and that is in the command. So if you want it to get past that you should explicitly tell it to ignore the hook config
