changed the title [-]enable discard mount option by default in /etc/fstab by default[/-][+]enable discard mount option in /etc/fstab by default[/+]on Jan 13, 2026

Is there any known drawback or possible if
discardis present but not support by the underlying stack?evgeni commentedon Jan 13, 2026
fstrim advises against discard: https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man8/fstrim.8.html#DESCRIPTION

If the intent is to shrink VM images, should we call fstrim as the last step when running in VM mode?
