How to stop GitHub Copilot from auto installing on remote server #259742

Description

  • Copilot Chat Extension Version: 1.350.0
  • VS Code Version: 1.102.3
  • OS Version: Windows 11 26100.4770
  • Feature (e.g. agent/edit/ask mode):
  • Selected model (e.g. GPT 4.1, Claude 3.7 Sonnet):
  • Logs:

I have a very cheap VPS, and it has about 1GB memory. When using remote SSH, with only the GitHub Copilot extension, it constantly crashes because of OOM. This is also discussed here, though that is not what I want to discuss. The point is, I can't remove it from the remote server.

If I uninstall it, it will be automatically reinstalled the next time remote SSH connects.
If I disable it, it will be disabled on my host too, even if I am not connecting to the server.

Is there any way I can stop it from auto-installing? Just like any other extension which shows a button that lets you decide whether to install on the remote server or not.
