Edits to Collabora Online spreadsheets not getting saved; issue may be linked to "The server encountered a nodocloaded error while parsing the setviewreadonly command" error message

Hi everyone, I was using the Collabora-based NextCloud Office tool, together with NextCloud AIO v13.2.1, to host some spreadsheets that I update on a regular basis. I found in late June that, after updating a spreadsheet, my changes would sometimes get lost when I next loaded the document. This issue occurred on both the NextCloud Android app and my mobile Android web browser; I don’t think I’ve had it happen on my Linux Mint desktop’s web browser yet.

I’m guessing this issue is linked to the following error message: “The server encountered a nodocloaded error while parsing the setviewreadonly command.”

I’ve been trying to make sure to save the document before exiting out of the spreadsheet viewer, but that doesn’t seem to help.

Any tips for resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

(I've temporarily switched over to Euro-Office and haven't had any issues just yet with lost edits, but I'd love to get the Collabora-based setup working again, as its mobile spreadsheet editor works better than does Euro-Office's.)

I had this issue as well (in conjunction with the Spring 26 release causing documents not to load on mobile devices). Made a considerable effort to pinpoint the cause, but I could not get further than to identify a probable race condition/stale lock inside one of the the document kit threads. The save activity times out after about five attempts, and the mobile session (including any changes in the document) is discarded. This has to be related to the specific mobile editor, since everything works flawlessly in the desktop version. Sadly, the mobile editor is served even when "desktop mode" is selected in the Android browser.

Eventually, I gave up on Nextcloud and switched to Opencloud, which is considerably more performant in its Collabora integration. Not as feature complete otherwise though (primarily lacking a web calendar, for my use case).

I'm glad I wasn't the only one with this issue! A recent NextCloud forum post did mention a recent fix that addressed the issue with mobile document loading. It's possible that this fix also addressed the issue that I raised, though it would be great to get confirmation of that before I switch back to the Collabora-based NextCloud office.

Hey there @kburchfiel, so this only happens when you edit a document via the mobile app and mobile browser, but not when using it from the web on a desktop or laptop machine?

Additionally, could you share more of your Collabora and Nextcloud server logs, and potentially browser console logs if there are any relevant errors there? I am not sure that there is enough info to go off of right now as I have not been able to reproduce anything like this.

In any case, the mobile editing bug I think you are talking about was fixed in the last release, and it was because the richdocuments app was not properly sending a "finished loading" signal to the mobile app - I don't think it is related to this Collabora log entry you shared.

Hey @elzody, thank you for the prompt response. Correct--I've only had this issue occur when using the mobile app and browser; it never came up when editing a Collabora-based NextCloud Office document from my browser.

I'll try switching back from Euro Office to the Collabora-based NextCloud office in order to see whether this issue is still occurring following the most recent update.

I really appreciate your team's hard work on this software. Creating a functional mobile spreadsheet editor is not an easy task, and many alternative options (including Euro Office) do not have the same capabilities as your alternative. (Many of them don't even allow spreadsheets to be edited on mobile to begin with.) I'll let you know if this issue comes back following the latest update--and, if so, will be happy to share any relevant logs!

Unfortunately, I encountered the same error message when attempting to view my spreadsheet on my phone. (I was attempting to view it by reopening a tab that had been active for a little while on my mobile Firefox app. Perhaps reopening the URL within my browser, rather than reopening the same tab, could help resolve this issue.)

I checked my NextCloud log, but I didn't see any entries from the time that I reloaded the tab that appeared to be directly related to this issue.

It also appears that, at least on occasion, edits to spreadsheets aren't getting saved (even though there's no immediate warning of this issue).
