No 22/stable snap for ppc64le #73

Closed

Description

@simondeziel

We've been using 20/stable previously and it provided most of the arches we needed (thanks!) but when moving to 22/stable, we lost ppc64le support causing our build to fail:

:: ++ uname -m
:: + '[' ppc64le = riscv64 ']'
:: + snap install node --channel=22/stable --classic
:: error: snap "node" is not available on 22/stable but is available to install on
::        the following tracks:
::
::        21/stable  snap install --channel=21 node
::        20/stable  snap install --channel=20 node
::        19/stable  snap install --channel=19 node
::        18/stable  snap install --channel=18 node
::        16/stable  snap install --channel=16 node
::
:: Please be mindful that different tracks may include different features.
:: Get more information with 'snap info node'.

Looking at https://nodejs.org/download/release/index.tab, it looks like upstream is still building for ppc64le so it'd be nice to have the snap for it too, please :)

FYI, we've ran into the same issue previously with 20/stable and ppc64le: #59

    Same cause, the platform was not selected for node22:

    I've just selected it and saved the changes.

    @richardlau thanks for that. I haven't check the 23/stable builder setup but maybe it's also in the same boat of missing this/some arches.

    @richardlau also it seems that new snap builds are triggered by release uploads to the LP branch (https://code.launchpad.net/~openjs/node-snap/+git/node-snap/+ref/node22). Would you mind triggering a new build for 22/stable to expedite the availability of the PPC snap?

    Thanks again!

    I don't know how to trigger a new build... there are no code changes to push to that branch as the branch is already pointing to Node.js 22.13.1.

    This should probably be mentioned on https://github.com/nodejs/snap?tab=readme-ov-file#adding-new-release-lines, if someone would like to update the list of architectures? For 23 because I had memories of it being outdated, I ended up just copying what 22 had, so obviously that didn't turn out so well!

    Re requesting new builds @richardlau, on https://launchpad.net/~openjs/+snap/node23 (or 22), right down the bottom when you're logged in:

    I've done that now for both and can see ppc64el in the list. Give it about an hour and they should show up.

    @edlerd

    @richardlau and @rvagg can you please also enable the riscv64 builds for the node22, node23 and edge channels as requested in #77 I would do it myself, but miss the permission over in launchpad.

    Quick links to add them:
