[finding] packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs prerequisite banner says echo "EXIT=$?" but never says BEFORE any pipe, and names no shape #13825

Closed

Description

@claude

Found while fixing #13429 (PR on claude/issue-13429-pipe-shape-advisory-siblings). Out of scope there: #13429's census and its triage anchoring both cover scripts/**, and this file is in packages/cli/scripts/, whose gate family is a different verification surface.

The site

packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs:620:

` (Exit code 1 — but piping this gate reports the PIPE's status. Use \`echo "EXIT=$?"\`.)`,

It is the only remaining copy in the repo of the pre-#13429 advisory family. git grep -n "the PIPE's status" -- 'scripts/**' 'packages/**' returns exactly this one line after that PR.

Why it is worth a line, and why it is milder than #13429's sites

Milder: unlike the six banners #13429 corrected, this one does NOT misname | tail as the dangerous shape, so it cannot steer a reader off the safe pipe. Everything it asserts is true.

Still wrong-shaped: it prescribes echo "EXIT=$?" without saying WHERE. A reader who does the natural thing — pnpm ... | tail -4; echo "EXIT=$?" — gets the pipe's status, which is the exact trap the prescription exists to prevent. scripts/check-test-completeness.mjs already carried that half correctly before #13429 ("Capture ... BEFORE any pipe"), so the corrected phrasing predates this card and simply never reached this file.

Suggested shape

Adopt the paragraph #13429 converged the other nine sites on, adapted to this gate's command. After that PR the census instrument is git grep -n "no pipe shape repairs it", which finds every copy; this file is the one that will not answer it.

Not graded. No gate verdict is computed from this text; it only misleads a human or agent reading refusal output.

    分诊定级 → domain:cli · p3 · tooling · pm:queue。摘 finding。

    锚定。 packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs ⇒ 落在 packages/cli 包内 ⇒ domain:cli。

    packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs:620
` (Exit code 1 — but piping this gate reports the PIPE's status. Use \`echo "EXIT=$?"\`.)`

    ⇒ 一个照做的读者写出 pnpm ... | tail -4; echo "EXIT=$?"

    Refs:#13429(本轮已定级 domain:devx p2,九处已收敛)· scripts/check-test-completeness.mjs(正确措辞的出处)。

Claim: PM loop round R2 (wave 2) — cross-domain exception path: this domain:cli card lands in the SAME PR as #14008 (domain:devx), per triage's binding on #14008 (R+81/R+83: 「与 #13825 同笔落地」; #13825's own triage: "should probably land together")
Session: session_01LAwHpn4uVuf4N1geBcD5i3 (domain:devx execution seat, seat post #6023)
    Branch: claude/issue-14008-i18n-prerequisite-exit-3
    Worktree: objectstack-issue-14008
Domain: domain:cli card, claimed by the domain:devx seat under the cross-domain single-PR exception; owning-lane seat #6024 is notified by this comment
File surface (full declaration, as the exception path requires): packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs — the prerequisite banner at the refusal site (:620 on f3ae441f; #13825 rewords it to #13429's converged paragraph, #14008 changes the exit it announces from 1 to 3) — plus #14008's files scripts/check-i18n-coverage.mjs, scripts/check-i18n-bundles.mjs, .claude/skills/pm-dispatch/references/lanes/services.md:22. Directed in-flight check over domain:cli's in-flight work: no open PR head (44 open PRs read 04:3xZ, each branch diffed against origin/main) touches check-app-nav-i18n.mjs; no pm:dispatched domain:cli card declares it. (stop on breach; explain in the report)
Container & model: S, mode:subagent, model: opus (same run as #14008; tier readout on f3ae441f: no path-derived mandate)
Clause-②: no (banner wording + a prerequisite refusal's exit code; no public surface)
Serial constraints cleared: as on #14008's claim; acceptance for this half = git grep -n "no pipe shape repairs it" gains this file (census 7 → 8 files) and the PIPE's status has zero hits in scripts/** + packages/** (triage: the grep count +1 is the criterion, not "reads right").

Claim: os-dev execution seat — this card lands in the SAME PR as #14008, under the cross-domain single-PR path (triage on #14008, R+81/R+83: 「与 #13825 同笔落地」; this card's own triage: "should probably land together").
    Session: session_01LAwHpn4uVuf4N1geBcD5i3
    Branch: claude/issue-14008-i18n-prerequisite-exit-3
    Worktree: objectstack-issue-14008, off origin/main = f3ae441f

Premise re-verified on f3ae441f: git grep -l "no pipe shape repairs it" answers 7 files, and git grep -n "the PIPE's status" -- 'scripts/**' 'packages/**' returns exactly one line — packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs:620. The card stands, and its acceptance criterion is the census count, not the reading.

What is adopted, per triage's 「抄现成的,⛔ 不要另写一版」: the paragraph #13429 converged the family on, taken verbatim from scripts/import-prerequisite.mjs / scripts/check-test-completeness.mjs with only this gate's own command substituted. ⛔ No eleventh wording, ⛔ no bare "before any pipe" appended to the old sentence — the old sentence is deleted.

File surface for this half: packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs (the one refusal site; #14008 moves the code that same banner announces from 1 to 3 in the same stroke). The rest of the PR's surface is declared on #14008.

Governed rider on the shared PR (.claude/**) ⇒ draft PR, human merge; this seat never flips it ready and never arms auto-merge.

Done, in the shared PR triage asked for: #14856 (draft — the diff carries a .claude/** governed rider, so a human merges it; this seat never flipped it ready and never armed auto-merge).

The full os-dev-report JSON is on #14008: #14008 (comment)

This card's half, with its acceptance criteria measured rather than read:

    criterion before (f3ae441f) after (fcdbc6d2)
git grep -l "no pipe shape repairs it" 7 files 8 files — the gained one is packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs
git grep -n "the PIPE's status" -- 'scripts/**' 'packages/**' 1 hit 0 hits (grep exit 1, captured before any pipe)

The paragraph is #13429's, taken verbatim from scripts/import-prerequisite.mjs with only this gate's own command substituted. ⛔ No eleventh wording; ⛔ nothing appended to the old sentence — the old sentence is deleted. #14008 moved the code that same banner announces from 1 to 3 in the same stroke, so the banner and process.exit now carry one constant between them and cannot drift.

⚠️ One thing worth flagging to whoever reviews: my first draft of the new doc comment on that gate explained the defect by quoting the old sentence, which silently put the census-negative string back — the criterion above would have been red while the code beside it was already correct. Caught by re-running the census after the edit rather than before it. The comment is reworded and now says out loud that the string must not be reintroduced even as a quotation.

One out-of-scope finding filed unassigned while in this file: #14857 — this gate (and its two siblings) pins neither its prerequisite exit code nor its advisory text from its own --self-test, so the wording this card just converged is unguarded against a future edit. ⛔ Not fixed here: a pin means extracting a pure text function, which is outside the file surface declared on the claim.

ACCEPT (cross-domain single PR, domain:devx seat, session session_01LAwHpn4uVuf4N1geBcD5i3): this card's half is delivered in PR #14856 together with #14008 — the banner at the prerequisite refusal now carries #13429's converged paragraph adapted to this gate's command; acceptance criterion met on the branch (no pipe shape repairs it census 7 → 8 files, the PIPE's status 0 hits under scripts/** + packages/**). Full checklist on #14008. Governed PR (.claude/** rider) ⇒ draft, human merge; review requested from os-zhuang and hotlong. pm:dispatched stays until MERGED; closes via Fixes.

    Close-out — PR #14856 MERGED 11:08:21Z; pm:dispatched stripped

Cross-lane housekeeping by the domain:devx seat (session session_012zGPuVVX3deAx9LdjK8jCk), recorded because this touches a domain:cli card.

Why this seat and not yours: triage bound this card to #14008 as a single PR — both halves change the same line of packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs (#14008 the exit code the banner announces, #13825 the banner's wording), and landing them apart would only have made them conflict. #14008 was claimed and dispatched from the domain:devx seat, so the close-out falls here.

What was verified — the #13825 half specifically, on origin/main after the merge: the converged paragraph census is 7 → 8 with packages/cli/scripts/check-app-nav-i18n.mjs as the added file, and the superseded sentence 「the PIPE's status」 is 1 → 0 (1 hit at the PR base 2263ca4d6, 0 now; a positive control on the adjacent term confirms the query itself works). Full probe table on #14008: comment on that card.

GitHub auto-closed this card via the PR's second Fixes line, but auto-close strips no labels, so pm:dispatched would have sat on a closed card as a half-state. Stripped in the same stroke as this note. ⛔ No other label touched — grading and routing on this card remain the domain:cli seat's and triage's.
