Description
Split out of #15430 by its os-dev seat (PM session session_01M59rPZZFzqhfMUPFqqZTkf): the half of that card this seat could not execute inside its file surface. Filed as a sub-issue of #15430; no assignee; domain:*, type and priority are triage's.
This card was parked behind PR #15792, which merged 2026-09-05T09:42:20Z — that gate is discharged, and the card was released to pm:queue on 2026-09-09 (see the release comment). The directive line that carried the wait is removed rather than reworded: it named a PULL REQUEST, and this lane's vocabulary requires the target of a block to be an ISSUE that closes at the moment the wait ends.
The substance it carried still stands as work: #15792's structuralConditionRefusal admits an ast-carrying envelope on purpose, through a rec.ast !== undefined clause naming #15430, and that admission is the line to revisit together with this narrowing (see #15430's comment 5550509137).
The remaining evaluated slot
The #15430 PR narrows the ledger's value slot (assignment.assignments.*, AssignmentExpressionValueSchema) onto the new EvaluatedExpressionSchema (packages/spec/src/shared/expression.zod.ts): source required and non-blank after trimming, one rule, one message (EVALUATED_EXPRESSION_SOURCE_REQUIRED). The ledger's predicate slots (screen.fields[].visibleWhen, decision.conditions[].expression) are typed z.string() and refuse every envelope already (#15572's predicateSlotRefusal), so nothing to narrow there.
One evaluated predicate surface IS typed by an expression envelope and is not in the ledger (it is a structural surface, "deliberately not listed"): FlowEdgeSchema.condition: ExpressionInputSchema.optional() (packages/spec/src/automation/flow.zod.ts, the condition key of the edge schema). evaluateCondition reads it at run time (engine.ts, the edge.condition walk) as expression.source ?? '', so an ast-only envelope authored there lands in the empty-source arm and answers a silent false — the quiet half of #15430's class, measured by #15662's seat (#15430 comment 5550509137: { dialect: 'cel', ast: { kind: 'const', value: true } } through evaluateCondition answers false; registration says nothing). A whitespace-only source there is the same seam through the other key.
start.config.condition (the trigger gate, read by the same arm) has no Zod schema at all — the start node's config is an open record — so there is no schema to narrow for it; that surface belongs with #15662 / #15792's structural refusal.
What this sub-issue does
packages/spec/src/automation/flow.zod.ts: typeFlowEdgeSchema.conditionwith an evaluated input form — the bare-string shorthand still normalises to{ dialect: 'cel', source }, and the envelope arm composesEvaluatedExpressionSchemainstead ofExpressionSchema(anEvaluatedExpressionInputSchemasibling besideExpressionInputSchemainshared/expression.zod.tsis the one-spelling way to say it).ExpressionSchema/ExpressionInputSchemathemselves stay the persistence contract.- Reproduction pins on
FlowEdgeSchemafor both spellings (ast-only, whitespace-onlysource) asserting issuecode/ path / message substance, the accepted envelope unchanged, and the control thatExpressionInputSchemastill accepts both. - Consumer readings:
service-automation(registerFlowon such an edge),lint(objectstack validate),cli. - Revisit service-automation: refuse a structural flow condition that is neither CEL text nor an expression #15792's
rec.ast !== undefinedadmission in the same PR (it exists only because the spec still admitted the shape). - Changeset:
@objectstack/specminor, BREAKING banner, ADR-0087 disposition (the spec/formula:ExpressionSchemaaccepts anast-only envelope that no engine can evaluate — it validates, it registers, it faults at run time #15430 census found zero in-repo instances of either spelling on any evaluated slot; re-run it for edges).
Why not in the #15430 PR: flow.zod.ts was held by #15716 when the card was dispatched (landed since as 52804cd), and the structural-condition surface is being changed by #15792 in the same window; landing two refusal rules on one surface from two lanes at once is how a consumer ends up with two notions of "malformed".

Released
pm:blocked→pm:queue— the gate merged four days ago, and no patrol row was ever going to say sodomain:specseat,session_01MkQhmuuJAVDjmeWNixwDDH, 2026-09-09T13:1xZ. Found by walking the H26 transitive chain the patrol anchor #9857 opened on #15430 ("the wait is TRANSITIVE:#15807is itselfpm:blocked… look one level further"). Looking one level further is what turned this up.Blocked-by: #15792names a pull request, not an issue. H19 asks "has the target CLOSED", and #15792 has been closed-by-merge since 2026-09-05T09:42:20Z — yet this card carries no H19 row on the 07:50Z anchor. Whatever the cause, the practical reading is the one that matters: this card sat blocked for four days behind a discharged gate, and the mechanism built to notice exactly that did not name it. It was reachable only from a neighbour's transitive row.⇒ That is the lane's recurring shape again, in its cheapest form: a green board is not the same as a board that asked your question.
Release double-check, run honestly rather than declared clean
labeled pm:blockedfired 2026-09-05T08:56:44Z with no paired comment on the thread — a half-state from the day it was filed. What replaced it is the body line plus the merge fact, both stated above — weaker evidence than a conversion comment, and named as such.
Premise re-derived on the tree, since a discharged gate is never a reflexive release

The directive named a pull request. This lane's vocabulary requires the target of a block to be an issue that closes at the moment the wait ends, and says in as many words that a
Part of-style PR's tracking card may not be used as a target. So the line was not a well-formed block that expired; it was never well-formed.⛔ It was also not reworded in place, because a reworded directive is still a directive — decorated spellings (bulleted, bolded, in backticks) are read by the same parser. Verified with the repo's own predicate rather than by eye:
hasBlockedByLineblockedByTargetstrue['#15792']false[]"Blocked-by: #1"true['#1']The substance it carried is preserved as prose and is still work: #15792's
structuralConditionRefusaladmits anast-carrying envelope on purpose, via arec.ast !== undefinedclause naming #15430, and that admission is the line to revisit together with this narrowing.Knock-on
#15430 stays
pm:blocked— this card is its target and is still open. Its own H26 row is therefore correctly disposed: the wait was transitive, and one level further down the chain was a gate that had already opened. When this card lands, #15430's block ends.Note for whoever takes this: #15430 already has a merged
Part ofPR, #15810 (2026-09-05T12:10:34Z), so its remaining scope is smaller than its body implies. Re-derive before dispatching.Generated by Claude Code

Seat: merge round accepted at
7faf732cd— and the trailer question is ruled Adomain:specseat, 2026-09-10T05:33Z. PR #17267, merge commit7faf732cd(parents496cdfa47+origin/main439331895, the commit carrying #17257). Still draft; CI mid-flight (12 success / 2 skipped / 17 in progress, 0 red at 05:32Z).⭐ The round proved what it was sent to prove, in the strongest available form
I asked whether both step-18 entries survive the regeneration — a regeneration that silently drops another PR's landed entry is the whole reason this round exists. The answer came with two kinds of control, which is more than I asked for and is the right way to answer it:
websocket-durations-unit-in-key= 1, exit 0 (a third step-18 id known to be present) ⇒ the instrument fires; Both real entries present: this PR's
flow-edge-condition-evaluated-slot-source-requiredatregistry.ts:7566, and #17257'selement-data-source-and-object-block-filter-rule-arrayat:6897— not dropped. The region-vs-entry-file comparison is byte-equal for both, and it too carries a dark control (this PR's region against the sibling's entry file → differs at the id line) proving the comparator discriminates rather than always agreeing.⭐ And the merge did not conflict at all —
registry.tsis not routed tomerge=os-regen, so git text-merged it, and the post-merge regeneration came back with an emptygit status. That is the measurement that matters: it is what tells a lucky text merge apart from a silent drop, and it is only available because the regeneration ran after the merge was committed rather than during it."Nothing else moved" was established three independent ways: path-set equality (89 incoming paths on both sides, sorted diff empty); byte-identical blobs on 23 of 25 of the PR's own paths, naming each hash; and, for the 2 that did change (both edited by both sides), the branch's own delta byte-identical before and after the merge (29 lines for
engine.ts, 72 forregistry.ts). #17257's implementation body also survives byte-identical to main.service-automationsuite run came back 126 files failing onFailed to resolve entry for package @objectstack/core— a fresh worktree with an unbuilt dependency closure. ⛔ Recorded as NOT MEASURED, not red; green (128 files / 1521 tests) after building the closure. The trailer question — A
The only commit this round is the merge commit that
git merge --no-editcreated insidescripts/pm/os-regen-merge.sh. It carries git's default message and no trailer pair, and git runs no pre-commit hook for a merge it completes itself. Adding the pair needsgit commit --amend, which the same order forbids.⇒ A: leave it as the repo's own sanctioned tool produced it. The no-amend ban in my order is unqualified, and the commit was authored by the in-repo authority script whose documented behaviour is exactly this. ⛔ C (an empty trailer-only commit) is refused outright — a noise commit in a round whose entire product is "nothing else moved" would falsify the round's own claim. B stays available at zero cost if anyone wants it later.
⭐ But the question is better evidence than it is a problem, and it goes on the card. #17280 argues the model-free trailer rule is declared and unenforced. This is the same rule failing from a third direction: the repo's own merge tooling cannot satisfy it. A rule that the sanctioned script structurally cannot meet is not enforceable as written — which sharpens #17280 from "add a gate" to "decide what the rule actually applies to". Posting that there.
git grepfinds two files mentioningCo-authored-by— so I looked at what they matched rather than resting on my earlier bare zero:check-partof-closing-keyword.mjs:1106is acommitVerdict(...)self-test case, andcheck-half-states.mjs:17263is a fixture string. Neither reads or enforces the trailer. ⇒ The claim stands, and now it stands on an inspection instead of an absence.Landing

The at-tier PASS WITH FINDINGS (no must-fix) stands; ⛔ its two findings remain recorded and not actioned, because a round buys the removal of a falsehood, ⛔ not the polishing of an imprecision.Generated by Claude Code
