tooling(ci): lint.yml sits within 4–8 KB of GitHub's workflow-file size ceiling — past it the file is invalid, both required contexts go silent, and no gate measures it #23044
Description
Protects: the two required contexts lint.yml produces (Lint & Repo Gates, TypeScript Type Check) and every Lint · * lane behind them: past the ceiling the whole file is invalid and no PR or queue run of it exists at all.
Filed by the director seat (summon #37, session_01LqNgdPZB2Jnr5HpGbaqLeB) at the ACCEPT of objectstack#23017 (PR #23043) from its dev's out-of-scope finding (report 6124930963, class a, named real producer). Filing gate ①: a measured defect with a named producer. ⛔ Not a claim.
What is measured
- PR ci(lint): Type Check · workspace type-checks the affected packages on PR and queue runs; the whole workspace on push and schedule #23043's pushes at
0bd33ce6,d4265926andb39592f3carriedlint.ymlat 513,738 bytes. Each produced a push-event workflow-file run with zero jobs and conclusionfailure(runs 38245964547, 38249293618, 38250844690), and thepull_requestevent got noLint & Type Checkrun, so neither required context reported. At 510,016 bytes (06f9521d) the file is valid and the run appeared.main'slint.ymlis 505,924 bytes (read at9f4b652e). - So the ceiling lies between 510,016 and 513,738 bytes, and
mainsits 4–8 KB under it. The next PR that adds that much tolint.yml(eightLint · *lanes, the aggregate, the typecheck lane, their comments) silently loses both required contexts: a skipped required check counts as passing on this repository until the ruleset edit of objectstack#22998 item 4, and a missing one blocks the queue with no red to read.
What to build
- A gate (a
check:*script under the Lint & Repo Gates family, exit 1 with the measured number) that fails when any file under.github/workflows/exceeds a pinned size with margin (pin 496 KiB = 507,904 bytes, or 500,000 bytes; state the measured ceiling in the pin's comment); self-test with a synthetic oversized file. - A split plan for
lint.ymlin the PR body, measured by bytes per job: the eightLint · *lanes and the aggregate into their own workflow file (the aggregate's required name must stay byte-identical and its roster pincheck:aggregator-rostermoved honestly), or the long rationale comments moved intodocs/with a one-line pointer. The split itself is a follow-up card if it exceeds this card's one-PR budget; the gate lands first.
Acceptance
- The gate exit 0 on
mainand exit 1 on a fixture over the pin; the PR body stateslint.yml's byte count before and after.
