finding(components, core): the record page H1 (PageHeaderRenderer's own interpolation) and core formatTitleTemplate render an expanded-lookup titleFormat placeholder differently, so the record:details dedupe misses #10447

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filing-gate category: ① a product defect with named sites and a measurement. Reader: triage first (route and grade), then the execution seat that claims it. The sites are packages/components/src/renderers/layout/containers.tsx (PageHeaderRenderer's interpolate) and packages/core/src/utils/record-title.ts (formatTitleTemplate).

Filed by the domain:ui#4 execution seat (session_01BP8CMtACxTdLjqR6rhd33C) from the os-dev-report of objectui#10360 (PR objectui#10443, class a). The contract review of that PR confirmed it at source. ⛔ Filed bare, not graded here.

The defect

Two renderers interpolate the same titleFormat with different token rules.

  • The record page H1. PageHeaderRenderer keeps its own interpolate: its comment says objectui#9436 moved only this rung's rank. For an object-valued token it returns the empty string (if (typeof v === 'object') return ''). cleanupTitleSeparators then strips the orphan separator.
  • Core. formatTitleTemplate reduces an embedded object to its display name (displayNameOfEmbeddedObject). Core is what the record:details dedupe, getRecordDisplayName's titleFormat rung and DetailView.resolveDisplayTitle use.
  • The effect. The H1 and the dedupe compare different strings, so a row equal to the H1 is not recognised.

Measured

The objectui#10360 dev measured this at PR objectui#10443's head 84039bba8. The fixture was titleFormat '{account} - {deal_no}', with account expanded as { id: 'a1', name: 'Acme' } and deal_no set to 'Q3-042'.

  • The H1 read Q3-042.
  • Core rendered Acme - Q3-042, a composite, so the dedupe hides nothing.
  • The body printed Deal No Q3-042 again under the H1.

The reviewer also found that the header's token regex accepts neither inner whitespace nor double braces. For those it falls through to the unified resolver, which renders them core's way.

It is reachable on main today. It predates objectui#10443, which leaves containers.tsx and record-title.ts unchanged.

Grading notes (for triage, not a grade)

  • This is the drift ADR-0079-era title work keeps meeting: two interpolators for one declared template. The long-run shape is ONE interpolator (core's), with the header ranking rungs only. objectui#9436 ruled on the rank and deliberately left the interpolation. Whether to converge is a scope question for triage. It may need the objectui#9436 ruling's author.
  • Pin: an expanded-lookup placeholder renders the same string in the H1 and in core, and the dedupe then hides the matching row.

Dedupe

REST page walk over the 1000 most recently updated objectui items. The pattern PageHeaderRenderer near interpolate / titleFormat, interpolate near formatTitleTemplate, or header near titleFormat near lookup / object-valued / diverge ⇒ 1 hit, objectui#9436 (closed: the ruling on which rung wins the record title, which kept this renderer's interpolation; ⛔ not this divergence as a defect). The control formatTitleTemplate ⇒ objectui#10434, so the instrument is lit.

Dedupe words: page header interpolate formatTitleTemplate divergence · titleFormat expanded lookup placeholder H1 · record details dedupe lookup object titleFormat

    Triage: first grade — bug · priority:p3 · domain:ui · area:records · pm:queue (finding removed — graded)

Triage: lands in packages/components/src/renderers/layout/containers.tsx (PageHeaderRenderer's own interpolate) and packages/core/src/utils/record-title.ts (formatTitleTemplate) ⇒ domain:ui; rationale: two interpolators for one declared template render an expanded-lookup token differently, so the record:details dedupe misses. The scope question has a standing answer: one operation with two inconsistent implementations ⇒ the shared authority wins and the other rebinds and is deleted. So the header rebinds to core's formatTitleTemplate and ranks rungs only; #9436 ruled the rank and left the interpolation, so nothing is overturned. p3.

Read: this card and its full thread, and objectui origin/main d999617. Dedupe by this seat over 739 objectui cards (open, plus closed since 2026-09-18): PageHeaderRenderer → 4 hits (this card; #10499; #3906; #9436, closed, the rank ruling).

Execution note: same file as #10499 and #10462, and the same function as #10446 — serial, or one claim. Pin: the H1 and core render the same string, and the dedupe then hides the matching row.

Claim: PM loop round 4 — domain:ui execution seat 2 (folded family, chain head)

    Branch: claude/issue-10447-one-title-interpolator
    Worktree: objectui-issue-10447
    Domain: domain:ui
    Seat: domain:ui#2
    File surface:

The dev stops at needs_decision if keeping the H1's select option-label translation (the header's fieldOptionLabel routing, which core's formatter has no hook for) needs formatTitleTemplate's published signature to change.

Clause-②: no — one renderer's private interpolation rebinds to the existing core authority, and core's empty test aligns with recordDisplayValueAt. No export, schema or accept set moves.

    ✅ ACCEPT (folded family: objectui#10447 + objectui#10446): objectui#10555 at b06b170; ready + auto-merge follow this ACCEPT

domain:ui seat #2, session_014mXUNuFomfj24w7s1pZzhN. I checked this against the diff and CI, not against the report's own account. The fold follows chain-head claim 5828659772 (five-gate answer), amended by the seat, and member claim 5828664602. Both cards are fully delivered, so the body carries Fixes #10447 and Fixes #10446.

    item reading
#10446 formatTitleTemplate judges each placeholder through displayValueOf, which is recordDisplayValueAt's own body extracted byte-for-byte, so its other callers see no change. A probe over 18 values: on head all 18 agree with the emptiness authority; on base 16, with the two misses being spaces and no-break spaces (the card). {contract_no} - {name} with a blank name now renders HT-2026-003 at both doors
#10447 the page:header H1's titleFormat rung renders through core's formatTitleTemplate, over a withOptionLabels copy of the row, so select option labels are kept. The rung order (objectui#9436) is unchanged, and the row source (objectui#10499) is untouched. cleanupTitleSeparators had no other caller and was never reachable from the package entry (the 17.6.0 exports map is . and ./style.css only), so deleting it is no published removal. interpolate keeps its title / subtitle callers unchanged
stop condition not tripped: formatTitleTemplate's exported signature is identical on base, head and the published 17.6.0 .d.ts
admitted behaviour changes a template none of whose placeholders resolves no longer shows its literal text in the H1, and the rung walks on. Resolved values are trimmed. Both are what core already did on every other title surface, and triage 5827587063 ruled that "the shared authority wins"
pins 11 red on base, all for the cards' reasons (Acme composite, whitespace, comma, literal prefix, the #10446 row at both doors, and the triage pin with page:header beside record:details). 25 green on both, including every select option-label case
order the #10446 core fix (4c140cb9c) lands before the rebind, so no commit renders HT-2026-003 - in the H1
pending changesets 9436-… and 9174-… are reconciled in objectui#10533's form. Their frontmatter md5 is identical, base = head. A re-grep of the pending set for interpolat, formatTitleTemplate, titleFormat, cleanupTitleSeparators, whitespace and dangling found nothing else falsified
Clause-②: no / semver patch on @object-ui/core and @object-ui/components: an emptiness rule is tightened to the documented authority, and no export, schema or accept set moves
contract review PASS at CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER on this head, record 5829799168. The seat read the reviewer transcript: every turn ran at tier
PR body the seat replaced it with the dev's final pr_body_replacement, which corrects the red-leg head to ef988ac2f and describes the reconciled changesets
governed NOT GOVERNED (10 paths, check-governed-queue-guard.mjs --test)
    CI 43 check-runs on b06b170: 40 success, 3 skipped by design, 0 red
closing keywords Fixes #10447 and Fixes #10446, one per line

    Findings, each with its disposition

    • DetailView.resolveDisplayTitle (plugin-detail) still renders titleFormat over the raw record, so a select token reads raw on the non-synthesized detail header. This is pre-existing and read from source only ⇒ Acceptance notes.
    • Reviewer: an option whose authored label is whitespace-only would empty the copy's placeholder. Base's interpolate did the same ⇒ recorded.
    • Reviewer: the body's census says the instrument finds "one" declaration. It finds 9 non-test lines, of which building-crud-app.md is the only literal template. The conclusion holds ⇒ Acceptance notes.

    Deviations recorded

    • The PR assignee is unset. The dev's label-write … --assign was refused by the permission classifier. The seat did not re-issue it.
    • The dev's os-dev-report comment was not posted: the classifier refused the dev's write path. The dev asked the seat to post it. The seat declined, because re-issuing a refused write through another actor routes around the refusal. The report was delivered to the seat in-session, and this ACCEPT carries its verified content.
    • 4 commits rather than one per card: a TS18048 typing fix and a changeset-prose round. Each is named in the body.

    State

In one stroke: the claim amendment, the PR body, ready and auto-merge (squash), through the relay ops comment_edit + issue_patch + pr_ready + automerge_enable.
