finding(plugin-form): a master-detail child that declares inlineColumns gets no derived sort field or amount field, so the showcase invoice's line drag-reorder is not persisted and its running total vanishes #11144

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filing-gate category: ① a product defect with a named site, class (a). reach: measured, and a named producer.

  • Named producer. objectstack's examples/app-showcase showcase_invoice_line.invoice (src/data/objects/invoice.object.ts) declares:
    • inlineEdit: 'grid' (:214);
    • identity-only inlineColumns (:244), with no inlineAmountField;
    • a position field (:256-258) whose own comment says it is "stamped by the grid on drag-reorder so the order" persists.
  • Measured. The objectui#11132 dev ran an uncommitted render probe with the subform the console's attachInlineSubforms builds from that relationship. A line created through it carried no position, and neither md-totals nor line-items-total rendered. The control was the same child with no inlineColumns (the derive branch): position 0 was stamped and the stack rendered.

Reader: triage first (grade and route), then the seat that dispatches it. Filed by domain:ui seat 2 (session_011p7ikEivgXefNDaE5S5Uec) at the ACCEPT of PR objectui#11142 (objectui#11132), from the dev report's out_of_scope_findings[0]. That PR's contract review (5898578737, ③ d) confirmed it at the head by code reading, as a separate defect class that needs a carrier. ⛔ Not graded here.

The site (read at objectui origin/main bf43afafa, packages/plugin-form/src/MasterDetailForm.tsx)

  • The resolve effect's relationshipField && columns branch returns { ...entry, config: { ...d, columns: hydrateColumns(d.columns, childSchema) } } (:904). That hydrates column types only.
  • The derive branch (:906, deriveDetail(...)) sets both amountField and sortField (SORT_FIELD_NAMES includes position).
  • Nothing else can supply them. The spec declares no inline sort-field key (field.zod.ts inline keys: inlineEdit, inlineTitle, inlineColumns, inlineAmountField). attachInlineSubforms carries only inlineColumns → columns and inlineAmountField → amountField.
  • The effect. A child that declares inlineColumns can get a sort field only by derivation, and this branch skips it. So sort_field reaches LineItemsField undefined and a drag-reorder is not persisted. Without inlineAmountField, total_field is absent too, so there is no running total.

Direction (for triage, not a ruling)

  • The hydrate branch derives sortField and amountField from the child schema it already holds, using the same deriveDetail rule, while an authored inlineAmountField (→ amountField) still wins. ⛔ Not a second derivation rule.
  • Pins:
    • the showcase-shaped subform (identity-only inlineColumns) stamps position on a created and a reordered line, and shows the running total;
    • an authored amountField overrides the derived one.

    Path: records — a line-items grid keeps its order and its total | 缺项 (a master-detail child that declares inlineColumns takes a branch that hydrates columns only, so it gets neither a derived sortField nor an amountField: the showcase invoice's drag-reorder isn't persisted and its running total vanishes) | P2

    Triage: first grade — bug · priority:p2 · domain:ui · area:records · pm:queue. Direction: the authored-columns branch derives the two fields too, from the same derivation

    Triage: lands in packages/plugin-form/src/MasterDetailForm.tsx (the resolve effect's relationshipField && columns branch, :904) ⇒ domain:ui.

    Why p2. It runs, but wrongly, on the named producer: the showcase invoice. A user drags lines into order and the order is lost on save, and the document total disappears. The derive branch's control shows both working when inlineColumns is absent.

    Direction.

    • The columns branch keeps the authored columns, and takes sortField and amountField from the same derivation deriveDetail uses (SORT_FIELD_NAMES, the amount rule). ⛔ Not a second derivation.
    • An authored inlineAmountField still wins over the derived one.
    • ⛔ No new spec key for an inline sort field: derivation from the child's position / sort-named field is the existing contract.
    • Pins: the showcase invoice line with its inlineColumns stamps position on drag and renders the totals stack. The no-inlineColumns child is unchanged (the control). An authored inlineAmountField wins.

Mechanism assumption 2 measured: deriveDetail can be called on that branch unchanged. With relationshipField given it never throws, and with columns given its columns ARE hydrateColumns(d.columns, childSchema) and pickAmountField runs over them. So both branches now share ONE deriveDetail call. deriveMasterDetail.ts is untouched: no export, no second copy of either rule. The authored-columns branch keeps its authored columns and its own formFields and inlineMode, and takes sortField and amountField from the derivation. d.amountField and d.sortField still win, and amountFieldDef follows the resolved amountField (the objectui#11132 currency). Behaviour consequence (PR Acceptance notes): an authored column set with any numeric column now gets a running total by the same pick a derived grid of that child always made. Deps were built first (pnpm --filter @object-ui/components^... build, then components, permissions, providers, test-support, fields) so the test project reads fresh .d.ts. New pin MasterDetailForm.inlineColumnsSortAmount-11144.test.tsx, verbose run at HEAD: 4 passed (showcase-shaped inlineColumns subform: position B=0, A=1, subtotal 13.00; CONTROL no-inlineColumns; authored amountField gives 8.00; authored sortField stamps line_no, no position). ABLATION at the committed fix, final test version, via objectstack scripts/ablation-replace.mjs (anchor x1 to x0, blob 8ac0ee06fc65 to 199af43ff260): the authored-columns config set back to `{ ...d, columns: derived.columns }`. Result 2 failed | 2 passed: lines [B, undefined], [A, undefined] and subtotal null; authored-amount position undefined; control and authored-sort green. Restore proven: blob == HEAD 8ac0ee06fc65 and git diff HEAD empty. PRECEDENCE ABLATION: `d.sortField ?? derived.sortField` swapped to `derived.sortField ?? d.sortField`. item reading
    the change The resolve effect's authored-columns branch and the derive branch now share ONE deriveDetail call. With relationshipField given it never throws, and with columns given its columns ARE hydrateColumns(d.columns, childSchema). The authored-columns branch keeps its own columns, formFields and inlineMode, and takes sortField and amountField from the derivation (SORT_FIELD_NAMES, pickAmountField). d.amountField / d.sortField still win, and amountFieldDef follows the resolved amountField (objectui#11132's currency). deriveMasterDetail.ts is untouched: no export and no second copy of either rule
    consequence An authored column set with any numeric column now gets a running total by the same pick a derived grid of that child always made. The review (① 7) judged it the ruled derivation on one more branch, announced in the PR body and the changeset
    tests 4 pins: a showcase-shaped identity-only inlineColumns subform stamps position and shows the subtotal, plus the no-inlineColumns CONTROL, an authored amountField winning and an authored sortField winning. The ablation (the authored-columns config reverted) turns exactly the derivation pins red, and the precedence ablation turns exactly the authored-sort pin red
    changeset '@object-ui/plugin-form': patch; Clause-②: no
    CI head e14eea2d0: 43 runs, 40 success, 3 expected skips, 0 failure
    size 3 files, +257 / −11
    closing keywords Fixes #11144 only
    governed none of the 3 paths is on objectui's governed surfaces

    Out of scope, one line each:

    • A fully configured detail (FK + every column typed) loads no child schema, so it derives neither field. The dev's probe measured it with no producer; the showcase is identity-only. This is the fully-configured branch's no-fetch rule, the same limit the objectui#11132 changeset declares for the currency. Acceptance notes, carrier: none; not filed (no named producer). It is to be filed as soon as a typed-inlineColumns producer is named, and it is recorded on the seat post.
    • Authored columns that list the sort field itself as a cell get it stamped on every grid change. The review judged it an author error under the existing contract: SORT_FIELD_NAMES are excluded from editable columns by definition, and the showcase leaves position out on purpose. Dropped: not a defect of this diff, and no producer uses one of the generic names (sequence, sort, line_no) as a business column.
