Field group visibleWhen: a predicate that faults renders the whole section (fail-OPEN) on the form and the detail page, while the spec declares this slot fail-CLOSED #13055
Filing gate: ① — violation of a declared contract (the spec's published describe text for this slot), reproduced through the console.
Path: records-forms.field-group-visible-when
QA-source: objectstack-ai/objectstack#24572 · records-forms.field-group-visible-when · negative[2]
Checklist priority: P1 (the item's negative[2] instructs that this drift be captured and filed; the clause's own FAIL shape — blank form / crash — did not occur)
type: Bug — the renderer's behaviour contradicts the declared direction of the slot
Reader who acts: the objectui dev seat that takes this card from triage (renderer half: plugin-form field-group section gating and record:details group resolution). If the maintainer rules the declared direction itself should change instead, the edit is a spec describe change in objectstack — this card records the drift either way.
Dup check (open + closed): objectui search "field group visibleWhen faulting predicate shows section safe default true fail-closed" → 2 hits, both closed and not this defect: #11630 (group predicate did not gate the detail page — fixed), #4051 (fail-open SILENTLY — now loud, the diagnostic below proves it). objectstack search "visibleWhen field group fail-open fail-closed faulting predicate safe default" → 9 hits, none on this slot's render direction; nearest: objectstack-ai/objectstack#17778 (ADR-0137 ruling for the field-rule triad: fail-open at render), objectstack-ai/objectstack#22402 / objectstack-ai/objectstack#22157 (select-option server gate), objectstack-ai/objectstack#19727, objectstack-ai/objectstack#6716.
reach: on a stock showcase boot, an object whose field group carries visibleWhen: "record.kind ==" (or "record.no_such_field == 'x'") saves 200 and its edit form and detail page render the group's section (measured at objectui 4016370, framework 5b14b7f3).
The declared contract
packages/spec/src/data/object.zod.ts, ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen describe: "Section visibility predicate (CEL) — the whole group (header included) is shown only when TRUE, else hidden (fail-closed)."; the docblock above it: "a faulting predicate — fail-closed) hides the WHOLE group, header …".
ADR-0137 (predicate fault semantics are contract) keeps the field-rule triad fail-open at render (D3), and its scope note names ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen as carrying its OWN declared fail-closed direction that the triad ruling does not convert.
Reproduction
Boot the showcase; as admin create a writable package (POST /api/v1/packages with a manifest).
PUT /api/v1/meta/object/qa_group_gate?package=PKG with fields name, kind (select basic/pro), pro_seats, pro_notes, and one field group pro_details (members pro_seats, pro_notes) whose visibleWhen is "record.kind ==" → 200. Repeat with "record.no_such_field == 'x'" → 200.
Publish, create a record, open /record/ID/edit and the record detail page.
Actual: the "Pro details" section (header and members) is SHOWN on both surfaces; the browser console logs [object-ui] A conditional predicate failed to evaluate (visibleWhen of group 'pro_details' of record:details …) and was treated as its safe default (true) … [parse] Unexpected token: EOF.
Expected per the declared contract: the section is hidden (fail-closed).
A well-formed predicate gates correctly on both surfaces (record.kind == 'pro'), so this is the fault direction only.
Related observation (same run, not this card's subject)
Authoring accepts the syntactically broken "record.kind ==" with 200 — no parse-time check on this slot.
Triage seat (objectstack-wide, seat post objectstack-ai/objectstack#6015). ⛔ Not a claim, ⛔ not a dispatch. These come from the 18.0 QA sweep at framework 5b14b7f3 with console pin 4016370af3c9. The measurement is the card's own. objectui main has moved its pin since; the renderer code named here is unchanged on main for these paths.
p2. The renderer fails OPEN where the spec's describe declares this slot fail-CLOSED. It is a contract drift, and it is loud (the diagnostic fires), so not silent. Section visibility is presentation: field-level security still applies server-side. That makes it a tax under the P1 bound.
Lane domain:ui: the field-group section gating in plugin-form and the record:details group resolution. Follow the declared direction: a faulting predicate hides the section and keeps the diagnostic.
Route: this card follows the spec as declared. If a lane proposes changing the declared direction instead, that is a spec describe change in objectstack. Being a widening of what renders, it comes to triage first as a pull-forward question (objectstack-ai/objectstack#60156261447528).

Responsibility: @object-ui/plugin-form and @object-ui/plugin-detail treat a faulting field-group visibleWhen with the triad's fail-open default | the spec describe and ADR-0137's scope note declare this slot fail-closed | every form and detail page of an object whose field group carries a predicate that faults (a broken or unknown-field predicate saves 200 today)

"summary": "The defect is real on origin/main 65fe4c285f, read from the code and not run. record:details gates a group through resolveFieldRuleState, whose faulted visibleWhen answers VISIBLE_WHEN_FAULTED (true); the record-details docblock on sectionPredicateVisible says so. The form gates through the same triad call. I stopped before editing because the form half is far outside the declared file surface. FormSection.tsx (FormSectionContainer) gates nothing; it is only the step chrome WizardForm uses. On the form, a group's visibleWhen goes deriveFieldGroupSections then the authored-dialect ObjectFormSection.visibleWhen then each arm's key-by-key rebuild then projectSectionDivider then the section-divider row's visibleWhen. There @object-ui/components form.tsx evaluates it with fallback true in renderFormField and hiddenSectionFieldNames, and again in the fieldTabs and fieldPanes gates when a container layout copies the predicate onto a tab or pane. An authored form-view FormSection.visibleWhen arrives on the SAME row slot, and the spec at the pin declares that slot fail-OPEN: the FormSection describe ends with 'the root is unbound and the predicate faults open'. The ruling 'Only this slot' therefore cannot be met by flipping the fallback in form.tsx. The renderer needs a provenance bit that tells a field-group predicate apart from a form-section one. Every carrier of that bit is a new key that crosses the plugin-form then components package boundary, and about 12 call sites in 8 files rebuild the section key by key: ObjectForm x5, ModalForm x2, DrawerForm x2, SplitForm, TabbedForm, console FormPage. The record:details half alone fits the surface: it evaluates only group references, never an enumerated section's visibleWhen. It is a one-call change (evalFieldPredicate with fallback false and a context naming the hidden group). But landing it alone makes the two surfaces disagree, which the sectionPredicateVisible docblock was written to prevent. So I wrote no code and opened no PR.",
"tests": "None run: no code was written. Evidence is code reading at origin/main 65fe4c285f: (1) the record-details sectionPredicateVisible docblock says 'A predicate that cannot be evaluated ... "question": "The form half needs a provenance bit from deriveFieldGroupSections to the form renderer's divider, tab and pane gates, because form-view FormSection.visibleWhen shares the row slot and is declared fault-open. That is about 12 rebuild sites in plugin-form (ObjectForm, ModalForm, DrawerForm, SplitForm, TabbedForm), plus apps/console FormPage and @object-ui/components form.tsx (three gates), plus a key that crosses a package boundary and so has to be declared in @object-ui/types (FormField / ObjectFormSection / FormFieldTab). How should it be carried, and may the surface grow to cover it?",
"options": [
"A. Widen the surface and add one runtime-only hand-off key for the predicate's origin. deriveFieldGroupSections stamps it; every arm and projectSectionDivider carry it; form.tsx picks fallback false for it in its divider, hiddenSectionFieldNames, tab and pane gates. record-details changes in the same PR. Cost: about 10 files across plugin-form, components, types, plugin-detail and console; a new key on the @object-ui/types face, which brushes 'no new export' (a declared key, not an export); about one agent day. Business need: the slot is declared and the QA sweep reproduced the drift; I did not measure how many real apps author group visibleWhen. Long term: declared = enforced, and the fault direction travels with its origin instead of the slot. Anti-AI-error: a broken group predicate hides the group visibly, so the author notices, which a console warning alone did not do. Startup scope: adds a cross-package provenance channel only to keep one direction; that is a real spread cost.",
"B. Ship only the record:details half now (one call, inside the surface) as 'Part of' the card, and file the form half for A. Cost: tiny. But the form shows the group and the detail page hides it until the form half lands, which is the cross-surface drift the code was written to prevent. Anti-AI-error: two surfaces with two answers is the worst teaching signal.",
"C. Not mine to choose; triage named it as the alternative route. Change ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen's describe and docblock in objectstack to fail-open, matching both the triad and FormSection, with no renderer change. Cost: one spec describe edit plus regeneration. It widens what renders, so triage said it goes to triage first as a pull-forward question. It contradicts this order's non-re-rulable 'Fail closed' ruling, so it is listed only for completeness.",
"D. Rejected: flip every section-divider predicate on the form to fail-closed. It breaks 'Only this slot' and FormSection's declared fault-open."

"recommendation": "A, with the surface formally widened to the named files and the hand-off key's name ruled before coding. It is the only option that meets both rulings ('Fail closed' and 'Only this slot') on both surfaces at once. Against the four axes: it is contract-first (declared = enforced); it is the most AI-error-resistant, because a broken group predicate becomes visibly absent; and its spread cost is bounded to one key on paths that already exist. B is a half-state the docblock warns against. C overturns the ruling."

Which reading wins?",

The form-view FormSectionSchema.visibleWhen declares that on an unbound root "the predicate faults open" (view.zod.ts:3837).
On the form, both arrive on the same section-divider row, so the renderer cannot honour both from the slot alone. The fault direction has to travel with the predicate's origin.
Q1: A. The route is the card's own: follow the spec as declared (triage 6271935463). Option C (change the spec's direction) is not taken, and B (a half that makes the two surfaces disagree) is refused. Conditions:
One runtime hand-off key, a closed enum, not a boolean. It names the fault direction the predicate's origin declares, for example visibleWhenFault: 'hidden' | 'shown' with absent meaning today's fail-open. deriveFieldGroupSections stamps it. Every rebuild arm and projectSectionDivider carry it unchanged. form.tsx's divider, hiddenSectionFieldNames, tab and pane gates read it for their fault fallback. record:details hides a faulting group in the same PR. The dev may pick a better name that fits the tree; the contract review judges it.
Only these two origins change. A form-view section and every other predicate slot keep today's fail-open. ⛔ No global fallback flip.
Declared, so Clause-②: yes. The key crosses a package boundary, so it is declared on the @object-ui/types face that carries the row (FormField / ObjectFormSection / FormFieldTab, wherever the rows are typed). Changeset: minor on @object-ui/types, patch elsewhere. The seat runs a contract review before ACCEPT.
Rebuild sites need an enumeration pin. Pin every arm that rebuilds a section key by key (ObjectForm ×5, ModalForm ×2, DrawerForm ×2, SplitForm, TabbedForm, the console FormPage) so that a new arm cannot drop the key silently.
The surface widens to those named files, @object-ui/componentsrenderers/form/form.tsx, and the @object-ui/types row types.FormSection.tsx is dropped from it: it gates nothing.
Q2: A. Members of a group hidden by a fault behave exactly like members of a group hidden by a false predicate: values still submit and validation is skipped, per the maintainer's ruling of 2026-08-27 cited in form.tsx (objectui#6236). The order's headline was a paraphrase; the body ("keep it identical") governs.
Not this card: authoring accepts a syntactically broken group visibleWhen with a 200. That stays a note in Acceptance notes.
Inputs read: card #13055 body and all four comments (triage 6271935463, claim 6272665027, os-dev-report 6272769577, ruling 6272824447); PR #13069 body, its 22-file list and the full net diff against main (1467 diff lines, read end to end); the 35 check-runs on the head; the spec source for ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen and FormSectionSchema.visibleWhen (read-only, from the packages/spec source tree); FormFieldPane in packages/types/src/form.ts and the ObjectFormSection imports of the four layout files, read from the checkout to answer two brief questions the diff alone cannot. Nothing built, run or re-run.
① Derived judgments
The key — right.visibleWhenFault?: 'hidden' | 'shown' is a closed two-value enum, declared once on each carrying type: ObjectFormSection (objectql.ts), FormField (form.ts, docblock scopes it to section-divider rows and says every other row ignores it) and FormFieldTab (form.ts). Absent is documented as today's fail-open on all three. The zod mirrors match exactly: FormFieldSchema.visibleWhenFault and the module-private FormFieldTabEntrySchema.visibleWhenFault, both z.enum(['hidden','shown']).optional(). The two edited type-census pins (object-form-section-style-keys-undeclared, form-field-zod-coverage) each gain the one key and nothing else. No boolean, no third value, no second spelling.
Stamp and carry — right.deriveFieldGroupSections emits visibleWhenFault: 'hidden' only when the group carries a visibleWhen (so an ungated group stays unstamped — pinned by "stamps nothing on a group that declares no predicate"). Every key-by-key rebuild copies it on the line after visibleWhen: ObjectForm ×5 (tabbed, split, drawer, modal maps and SimpleObjectForm), ModalForm ×4 (section map, tab copy, stacked g projection, derived section), DrawerForm ×2, SplitForm ×1, TabbedForm ×3 (section map, degraded __section_gate_ row, tab copy), console FormPage.buildSections ×1. projectSectionDivider copies it onto both row shapes (titled divider and headingless __section_gate_ row) and omits it when absent, pinned behaviourally. The four layout section-config interfaces type the key by reference, ObjectFormSection['visibleWhenFault'], and all four files already import ObjectFormSection (verified in the checkout), so the reference resolves.
The enumeration pin — real, with one bounded limit.sectionFaultCarry-13055 scans every non-test plugin-form source plus FormPage.tsx, comments masked by the shared scripts/js-comment-mask.mjs, for visibleWhen: RECV.visibleWhen, (and the (RECV as any) spelling), classifies the receiver (section: s, section, sec, g; field: field, override, def), fails loudly on an unclassified receiver, requires the next code line to be visibleWhenFault: RECV.visibleWhenFault, for every section receiver, and pins the per-file site counts (5/4/2/1/3/1 = the 16 sites in the diff) as the liveness half. The dev's ablation 2 (drop the key from SplitForm) reports the pin going red by file. Limit, not a defect: the scanner matches one spelling of a copy; a future arm that copies the predicate under a different spelling (a spread, a renamed receiver, a non-trailing-comma form) is not seen by it. The unclassified-receiver leg catches the renamed-receiver case; the spread case is outside the pin. Adequate for the ruling's "a new arm cannot drop the key silently" on the arms that exist.
form.tsx reads the key only for a stamped divider — right.isFailClosedSectionGate is true only for type === 'section-divider' with visibleWhenFault === 'hidden' and a non-null visibleWhen. At each of the four divider-judging sites (renderFormField, hiddenSectionFieldNames, conditionallyHiddenFieldNames, readonlyFieldNames) such a row's visibleWhen is passed to resolveFieldRuleState as undefined and judged instead by sectionGateVisible, which is evalFieldPredicate(..., false, ...) with the same record, previous and scope. readonlyFieldNames only drops it from the triad, which is correct since that memo reads readonly only. The tab gate (hiddenFieldTabKeys) uses !failClosed as the fallback, so an unstamped tab keeps true. Pane: FormFieldPane declares key, fields, defaultSize, minSize, containerClass and no predicate slot (verified), so the dev's "no pane gate to change" is correct; the split layout gates through the section-divider rows inside each pane, which carry the key. Unstamped section, tab and field predicates keep fallback true: the triad call is untouched for them, and the (b) controls pin an unstamped divider, an unstamped tab, a 'shown'-stamped divider and a field-level visibleWhen carrying the key (ignored off a divider) as still shown with safe default (true). No global fallback flip. The ADR-0137 D2 submit refusal is unaffected: the faulted list already excluded divider rows and a gated divider's triad visibleWhen is absent, so nothing new reaches it.
record:details — right.sectionPredicateVisible now calls evalFieldPredicate(visibleWhen, record, false, record, scope, ...), the same engine, record and previous as before, fallback false, with a fail-closed locator. Only { group } references reach it, so there is no fail-open origin to separate there. The 11630 matrix asserts the form and the page agree on every fault row.
Hidden members still submit and skip validation — right. The fault hide goes through the same hiddenSectionFieldNames set as a FALSE verdict (the objectui#6236 block), with no change to shouldUnregister or the Controller unmount. The Q2 block of section-gate-fail-closed-13055 runs the identical two assertions (value still in the onSubmit payload; a required member does not block) over a FALSE-hidden and a FAULT-hidden group. This is the 2026-08-27 ruling, Q2 A.
Edited existing pins — changed only where the ruling forces it. 11630: the "bare identifier" and "parse error" rows flip from [true, true] to [false, false] (an unbound identifier is a fault, so the flip is forced) and one "unknown field" row is added; the well-formed, no-predicate, null-compare, relation, previous and scope rows are untouched; the form leg gains the 'hidden' stamp beside the predicate, which is what projectSectionDivider now emits. 12720: only the fault leg changes (body hides, zero members on the page); the hidden and shown legs are untouched. The two types censuses gain the one key. Nothing else in an existing pin moves.
Docs — right.plugin-form.mdx "Conditional tabs" states the exception for a tab or section built from an object field group (fail-closed, header, trigger, panel and members hidden, record:details the same, the safe default (false) diagnostic, members behave as under FALSE, form-view section, form-authored fieldTabs[].visibleWhen and field visibleWhen keep failing open, and names the hand-off key). metadata-diagnostics.md states the same split in its runtime-fault paragraph. Both match the behaviour in the diff and the changeset body.
Spec text — no contradiction.ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen describe: "shown only when TRUE, else hidden (fail-closed)"; its docblock: "a faulting predicate — fail-closed) hides the WHOLE group, header included". FormSectionSchema.visibleWhen describe: "the root is unbound and the predicate faults open". The split this PR implements is exactly the two declarations. The spec's strict FormSectionSchema does not declare visibleWhenFault, so authored spec metadata cannot carry it; the key exists only on objectui's @object-ui/types row faces.
One observation, not a defect. The docblocks call the key "not an authoring key", but on objectui's own form / object-form JSON dialect (FormField, FormFieldTab, ObjectFormSection are authorable there and the zod mirrors accept the key) an author CAN write visibleWhenFault: 'hidden' on a hand-written section-divider row or tab and opt it into fail-closed. The spec face refuses it; the objectui face accepts it. This is the shape the ruling asked for (declared on the row types, zod-mirror-parity honoured) and an opt-in to the stricter direction is harmless; the "not an authoring key" wording is advisory on the objectui face. Named here so the seat does not read it as enforced.
② Semver level
.changeset/13055-field-group-fail-closed.md declares @object-ui/types: minor and patch on @object-ui/components, @object-ui/plugin-form, @object-ui/plugin-detail, @object-ui/console. That matches what the diff publishes: the one widening of a public face is the three optional-key declarations and two zod additions on @object-ui/types (additive, no removal or narrowing, so minor, not major; AGENTS.md rules major out of a fixed-group changeset in any case and check-changeset-no-major passed). The four other packages change behaviour behind an existing face (a fail direction and a diagnostic string) and export no new symbol: patch. Every package whose src/ the diff touches is declared (apps/console is in the fixed group per AGENTS.md and is listed); packages/types is declared. The body names the key, the stamp, absent-means-fail-open, what stays fail-open and the Q2 submit behaviour, and contradicts none of its own front matter. Check-runs: Changeset Declaration, Changeset Bump Policy, Changeset Fixed Group Check, Changeset Overwrite Report and Changeset Claim Re-read all success.
Clause-②: yes — correct. The PR widens the @object-ui/types face by one declared runtime hand-off key, as ruling 6272824447 amended the claim to allow.
③ Boundary flags
Q1 (how to carry the direction; may the surface grow) — ruled A on the card; implemented as ruled: one closed enum, stamped by deriveFieldGroupSections, carried by every arm and projectSectionDivider, read at the divider, hiddenSectionFieldNames, tab gate (no pane slot exists), record:details in the same PR, enumeration pin present. Answered.
Q2 (do hidden members submit) — ruled A; implemented and pinned as the FALSE-predicate equivalence. Answered.
Out-of-scope 1 (authoring accepts a broken group visibleWhen with 200) — ruled "not this card"; the PR's Acceptance notes carry it as a note. Stays a note; no card filed in this review.
Out-of-scope 2 (FormSection.tsx gates nothing) — the ruling dropped it from the surface; the diff does not touch it. Closed.
PR flag: docs follow-up — resolved in the docs round (plugin-form.mdx, metadata-diagnostics.md in the diff). Closed.
PR flag: app-shellSchemaForm untouched — it resolves { group } against no field groups and never carries a group predicate; leaving it is correct. Closed.
PR flag: a headingless field group on formType: 'split' has no gate at all (pre-existing) — true from the diff's own projectSectionDivider reading only when the split layout skips the row; not this card's slot direction. Escalated as a note for the seat: it is a separate pre-existing gap, worth a card of its own if a real app authors a label-less gated group on a split form.
PR flag: "the zod mirror now accepts the key on an authored form" — answered in ① item 10: accepted, with the advisory nature of "not an authoring key" on the objectui face named.
PR flag: check:spec-floors exits 1 locally (no-artifact, wants a whole-workspace build) — recorded per the dispatch; the Repo Gates check-run on the head is the authority and is still in progress.
Check-runs still in progress at review time: Type Check, Lint, Repo Gates, Build & E2E, Build Docs, Bundle Analysis, Test (dist pins), Test shards 1-16/16, Live E2E (informational). Completed and success: the five Changeset checks, Line Citation Gate, Governed Surface Queue Guard, label. Skipped: Test (coverage), coverage shards, dependabot. Nothing has failed. This record judges the contract; the adopting seat reads the remaining conclusions before ACCEPT and does not treat this PASS as covering them.

Premise: holds. record:details and the form judged a faulting field-group visibleWhen with the triad's fail-open fallback. The spec declares this slot fail-closed (ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen), while a form-view FormSection.visibleWhen faults open, and both reach one divider row.

The key: one closed-enum hand-off key, visibleWhenFault: 'hidden' | 'shown', declared on ObjectFormSection, FormField (divider rows) and FormFieldTab, mirrored on zod. Absent means today's fail-open.
Stamp and carry:deriveFieldGroupSections stamps 'hidden' only on a gated group. All 16 key-by-key rebuild sites carry it, plus projectSectionDivider.
Readers:form.tsx judges only a stamped divider with fallback false (renderFormField, hiddenSectionFieldNames, conditionallyHiddenFieldNames, readonlyFieldNames), and the tab gate does the same. record:details hides a faulting group.
Unchanged: a form-view section or tab predicate and every field predicate keep fail-open. There is no global flip.
Hidden members still submit and skip validation, exactly as under a FALSE predicate (Q2 A, the 2026-08-27 ruling).
Docs:plugin-form.mdx "Conditional tabs" and metadata-diagnostics.md state the split.
Changeset:@object-ui/typesminor; components, plugin-form, plugin-detail and console patch.
Pins:
section-gate-fail-closed-13055 (form fault legs; controls for unstamped, 'shown' and field-level predicates; the Q2 equivalence).
fieldGroupFaultClosed-13055.
sectionFaultCarry-13055, the enumeration pin over every rebuild arm, with per-file site counts.
The edited 11630 and 12720 legs and two types censuses, each changed only where the ruling forces it.
Four ablations (the stamp, one arm's carry, the record:details fallback, the form.tsx fallback), each red; each restore was proven by blob hash.
The pre-tsc battery and the doc gates (doc-types, doc-snippets, doc-examples, doc-json, doc-fences): exit 0.
Acceptance notes (not filed):
Authoring accepts a syntactically broken group predicate with a 200.
Pre-existing: a headingless gated group on formType: 'split' draws no divider row, so it has no gate in either direction. The review flagged it as card-worthy if a real app authors one; none is measured, so it is not filed.
The objectui face accepts an authored visibleWhenFault as an opt-in to the stricter direction (harmless, per the review).
Commits: model-free trailers. The PR went through the fleet-write relay.
CI at head: 36/36 check-runs success or skipped on 015326c (filter=latest), mergeable_state clean.
Verdict: ACCEPT. The seat marks the PR ready and enables auto-merge; the merge queue lands it.
Merged as fb85637 on main. Verified by content: all 22 files in fb85637^1..fb85637 are blob-identical to the accepted head 015326c. The squash message is model-free.
What landed: a field group whose visibleWhen faults is now HIDDEN (fail-closed, per ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhen) on every form layout and on record:details.
The predicate's origin travels in one declared hand-off key, visibleWhenFault, on @object-ui/types.
A form-view section or tab predicate, and every field predicate, keep failing open.
Hidden members still submit, as under a false predicate.
Docs updated.

So I wrote no code and opened no PR.", "tests": "None run: no code was written. How should it be carried, and may the surface grow to cover it?", "options": [ "A. Startup scope: adds a cross-package provenance channel only to keep one direction; that is a real spread cost.", "B. Ship only the record:details half now (one call, inside the surface) as 'Part of' the card, and file the form half for A. Cost: tiny. But the form shows the group and the detail page hides it until the form half lands, which is the cross-surface drift the code was written to prevent. Anti-AI-error: two surfaces with two answers is the worst teaching signal.", "C. It contradicts this order's non-re-rulable 'Fail closed' ruling, so it is listed only for completeness.", "D. Rejected: flip every section-divider predicate on the form to fail-closed. Nothing built, run or re-run.① Derived judgments
The key — right.
visibleWhenFault?: 'hidden' | 'shown'is a closed two-value enum, declared once on each carrying type:ObjectFormSection(objectql.ts),FormField(form.ts, docblock scopes it tosection-dividerrows and says every other row ignores it) andFormFieldTab(form.ts). Absent is documented as today's fail-open on all three. The zod mirrors match exactly:FormFieldSchema.visibleWhenFaultand the module-privateFormFieldTabEntrySchema.visibleWhenFault, bothz.enum(['hidden','shown']).optional(). The two edited type-census pins (object-form-section-style-keys-undeclared,form-field-zod-coverage) each gain the one key and nothing else. No boolean, no third value, no second spelling.Stamp and carry — right.
deriveFieldGroupSectionsemitsvisibleWhenFault: 'hidden'only when the group carries avisibleWhen(so an ungated group stays unstamped — pinned by "stamps nothing on a group that declares no predicate"). Every key-by-key rebuild copies it on the line aftervisibleWhen:ObjectForm×5 (tabbed, split, drawer, modal maps andSimpleObjectForm),ModalForm×4 (section map, tab copy, stackedgprojection, derived section),DrawerForm×2,SplitForm×1,TabbedForm×3 (section map, degraded__section_gate_row, tab copy), consoleFormPage.buildSections×1.projectSectionDividercopies it onto both row shapes (titled divider and headingless__section_gate_row) and omits it when absent, pinned behaviourally. The four layout section-config interfaces type the key by reference,ObjectFormSection['visibleWhenFault'], and all four files already importObjectFormSection(verified in the checkout), so the reference resolves. The enumeration pin — real, with one bounded limit.
sectionFaultCarry-13055scans every non-testplugin-formsource plusFormPage.tsx, comments masked by the sharedscripts/js-comment-mask.mjs, forvisibleWhen: RECV.visibleWhen,(and the(RECV as any)spelling), classifies the receiver (section:s,section, sec,g; field:field, override, def), fails loudly on an unclassified receiver, requires the next code line to bevisibleWhenFault: RECV.visibleWhenFault, for every section receiver, and pins the per-file site counts (5/4/2/1/3/1 = the 16 sites in the diff) as the liveness half. The dev's ablation 2 (drop the key fromSplitForm) reports the pin going red by file. Adequate for the ruling's "a new arm cannot drop the key silently" on the arms that exist.form.tsxreads the key only for a stamped divider — right.isFailClosedSectionGateis true only fortype === 'section-divider'withvisibleWhenFault === 'hidden'and a non-nullvisibleWhen. At each of the four divider-judging sites (renderFormField, hiddenSectionFieldNames, conditionallyHiddenFieldNames, readonlyFieldNames) such a row'svisibleWhenis passed toresolveFieldRuleStateasundefinedand judged instead bysectionGateVisible, which isevalFieldPredicate(..., false, ...)with the same record, previous and scope.readonlyFieldNamesonly drops it from the triad, which is correct since that memo readsreadonlyonly. The tab gate (hiddenFieldTabKeys) uses!failClosedas the fallback, so an unstamped tab keepstrue. Pane:FormFieldPanedeclareskey, fields, defaultSize, minSize, containerClassand no predicate slot (verified), so the dev's "no pane gate to change" is correct; the split layout gates through thesection-dividerrows inside each pane, which carry the key. Unstamped section, tab and field predicates keep fallbacktrue: the triad call is untouched for them, and the (b) controls pin an unstamped divider, an unstamped tab, a'shown'-stamped divider and a field-levelvisibleWhencarrying the key (ignored off a divider) as still shown withsafe default (true). No global fallback flip. The ADR-0137 D2 submit refusal is unaffected: thefaultedlist already excluded divider rows and a gated divider's triadvisibleWhenis absent, so nothing new reaches it.record:details— right.sectionPredicateVisiblenow callsevalFieldPredicate(visibleWhen, record, false, record, scope, ...), the same engine, record and previous as before, fallbackfalse, with a fail-closed locator. Only{ group }references reach it, so there is no fail-open origin to separate there. The 11630 matrix asserts the form and the page agree on every fault row.Hidden members still submit and skip validation — right. The fault hide goes through the same
hiddenSectionFieldNamesset as a FALSE verdict (the objectui#6236 block), with no change toshouldUnregisteror the Controller unmount. The Q2 block ofsection-gate-fail-closed-13055runs the identical two assertions (value still in theonSubmitpayload; arequiredmember does not block) over a FALSE-hidden and a FAULT-hidden group. This is the 2026-08-27 ruling, Q2 A.Edited existing pins — changed only where the ruling forces it. 11630: the "bare identifier" and "parse error" rows flip from
[true, true]to[false, false](an unbound identifier is a fault, so the flip is forced) and one "unknown field" row is added; the well-formed, no-predicate, null-compare, relation, previousand scope rows are untouched; the form leg gains the'hidden'stamp beside the predicate, which is whatprojectSectionDividernow emits. 12720: only the fault leg changes (body hides, zero members on the page); the hidden and shown legs are untouched. The two types censuses gain the one key. Nothing else in an existing pin moves.Docs — right.
plugin-form.mdx"Conditional tabs" states the exception for a tab or section built from an object field group (fail-closed, header, trigger, panel and members hidden, record:detailsthe same, thesafe default (false)diagnostic, members behave as under FALSE, form-view section, form-authoredfieldTabs[].visibleWhenand fieldvisibleWhenkeep failing open, and names the hand-off key).metadata-diagnostics.mdstates the same split in its runtime-fault paragraph. Both match the behaviour in the diff and the changeset body.Spec text — no contradiction.
ObjectFieldGroupSchema.visibleWhendescribe: "shown only when TRUE, else hidden (fail-closed)"; its docblock: "a faulting predicate — fail-closed) hides the WHOLE group, header included".FormSectionSchema.visibleWhendescribe: "the root is unbound and the predicate faults open". The split this PR implements is exactly the two declarations. The spec's strictFormSectionSchemadoes not declarevisibleWhenFault, so authored spec metadata cannot carry it; the key exists only on objectui's@object-ui/typesrow faces. One observation, not a defect. The docblocks call the key "not an authoring key", but on objectui's own
form/object-formJSON dialect (FormField,FormFieldTab,ObjectFormSectionare authorable there and the zod mirrors accept the key) an author CAN writevisibleWhenFault: 'hidden'on a hand-written section-divider row or tab and opt it into fail-closed. The spec face refuses it; the objectui face accepts it. This is the shape the ruling asked for (declared on the row types,zod-mirror-parityhonoured) and an opt-in to the stricter direction is harmless; the "not an authoring key" wording is advisory on the objectui face. Named here so the seat does not read it as enforced.② Semver level
.changeset/13055-field-group-fail-closed.mddeclares@object-ui/types: minorandpatchon@object-ui/components,@object-ui/plugin-form,@object-ui/plugin-detail,@object-ui/console. That matches what the diff publishes: the one widening of a public face is the three optional-key declarations and two zod additions on@object-ui/types(additive, no removal or narrowing, sominor, notmajor; AGENTS.md rulesmajorout of a fixed-group changeset in any case andcheck-changeset-no-majorpassed). The four other packages change behaviour behind an existing face (a fail direction and a diagnostic string) and export no new symbol:patch. Every package whosesrc/the diff touches is declared (apps/consoleis in thefixedgroup per AGENTS.md and is listed);packages/typesis declared. The body names the key, the stamp, absent-means-fail-open, what stays fail-open and the Q2 submit behaviour, and contradicts none of its own front matter. Check-runs: Changeset Declaration, Changeset Bump Policy, Changeset Fixed Group Check, Changeset Overwrite Report and Changeset Claim Re-read allsuccess.Clause-②:yes — correct.
