finding(components): the four declared action renderers drop objectName, and three of them drop onClick — held as KNOWN_GAPS by check:action-forward-parity #4202

Closed

Description

@yinlianghui

Found by the new check:action-forward-parity gate (#4050) on its first run. Both are pre-existing on every surface, so neither is a regression of that PR and neither was fixed there; they are carried in the gate's ratcheted KNOWN_GAPS table pointing at this issue, which fails the moment a gap is closed but the entry is left behind.

Filed as observation-class: no measured instance a user hits today. See "Grade" below.

1. objectName — dropped by all four declared surfaces

action:button, action:icon, action:group and action:menu each forward an explicit key whitelist to the runner, and none of the four includes objectName. It is authorable (spec ActionSchema declares it) and the console handler reads it unconditionally on three paths:

  • useConsoleActionRuntime.tsx:370 — const obj = action.objectName || objApiName, which picks the object the generic list-level API handler updates/executes against.
  • useConsoleActionRuntime.tsx:151 and :180 — the i18n scope for the param dialog's labels (_actions.<name>.params.*) and for field-backed param resolution.

So an action declaring its own objectName — the "retarget a CHILD object" case the :180 comment describes — silently resolves against the page's object when it is rendered through one of these four. The spread-based hosts (DeclaredActionsBar, RelatedRecordActionsBridge, ObjectGrid, page:header) carry it, which is why the gap has stayed invisible: the paths where authors actually retarget an object today are the ones that spread the whole action.

2. onClick — honoured by action:menu only

onClick is the documented UI-local escape hatch (a direct callback that bypasses the ActionEngine). action:menu invokes it and returns early (action-menu.tsx:212); ActionRunner also reads it as a fallback executor. action:button, action:icon and action:group do neither — they do not call it and do not forward it, so a code-composed onClick on those three is silently inert.

Not authorable in metadata (it is a function), which is why nothing caught it: it can only arrive from a code-composed schema, so no published app can hit it.

Grade

finding, no pm:queue. Both are dormant drift of the same family as objectstack#6837 / #6938 — real drops, but neither has a measured user-facing instance: objectName is only ever authored today on the spread-based paths that already carry it, and onClick is unreachable from metadata at all. Filed so the gate's ledger has something to point at and so the next reader does not re-derive the measurement.

Closing this means deleting the matching KNOWN_GAPS entries in scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs — the gate fails if they are left in after the gap closes.

Findings triage (first grade; premise check @ origin/main e1ade8f): HOLD — finding stands, and the filer's own grade is endorsed rather than re-litigated.

Anchors verified live: the gate's ledger at scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs:270 (export const KNOWN_GAPS), with the JUSTIFIED-vs-KNOWN_GAPS distinction documented at :86-87; and all three console read points for objectName in packages/app-shell/src/hooks/useConsoleActionRuntime.tsx — :151 (i18n scope), :180 (field-backed param resolution) and :370 (const obj = action.objectName || objApiName). Note the card's path for those three reads is apps/console/...; the file actually lives at packages/app-shell/src/hooks/ — corrected here so the next reader does not chase a dead path.

Held for both gaps, for different reasons and neither weak:

    • objectName is authorable and dropped by all four declared renderers, but the paths where authors retarget an object today are the spread-based hosts that already carry it — so there is no live subject. Forwarding it would also change behaviour on every existing declared-renderer action that happens to declare objectName, which is not a mechanical patch.
    • onClick cannot arrive from metadata at all (it is a function), so no published app can reach it; the inertness is real but unreachable outside code-composed schemas.

The gate makes this self-correcting, which is the reason holding is safe here rather than merely cheap: the KNOWN_GAPS entries fail the moment a gap is closed and the entry is left behind, so the ledger cannot silently drift out of step with the code.

    Findings cadence re-check @ origin/main 6314e87: HOLD — finding stands.

Premise live: the gaps remain deliberately held by the parity gate's ratchet — scripts/check-action-forward-parity still carries KNOWN_GAPS entries (test suite pins that each entry excuses something real and carries a reason + issue, scripts/__tests__/check-action-forward-parity.test.ts:244/:272/:416). This card is the issue those entries cite, so it stays open as the ratchet's anchor until the forwarding work is done — closing it would orphan the gate's own bookkeeping. Promotion belongs with a renderer-forwarding sweep, not a lone dispatch.

    Findings cadence re-check @ origin/main 6d01319: HOLD — finding stands, premise live and self-enforcing.

Both KNOWN_GAPS entries still point here (check-action-forward-parity.mjs:282, :295), and objectName has not appeared in any declared renderer's whitelist — the gaps are open exactly as the ledger says. This card is in the healthiest holdable state a finding can be: the gate mechanically fails if either gap closes without deleting its ledger row, so drift in both directions is watched by CI rather than by memory. Nothing user-reachable has changed (objectName retargeting still only authored on spread-based hosts; onClick still unreachable from metadata). Restart condition unchanged: promote when a declared-surface retarget case ships (or the gate ratchet forces the entries out via a fix riding renderer work).

Concentrate round (state transition, no re-grade): finding → pm:on-hold, executing the three standing HOLD verdicts (2026-08-11) that never left the label. Verdict unchanged: both gaps dormant, self-enforcing via the parity gate's ratcheted KNOWN_GAPS ledger.

Restart-when: grep -c '4202' scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs returns 0 on main (the gaps were closed and the ledger rows removed — re-read then close this card as delivered), or a renderer-forwarding sweep / any dispatch declares a file surface touching the declared action renderers' forward whitelists or the gate script. Trigger files: scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs, the four action:* renderers in packages/components, packages/app-shell/src/hooks/useConsoleActionRuntime.tsx.

Triage: domain:ui (lane only — pm:on-hold untouched). Landing: the four declared action renderers in packages/components; scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs is the gate that would police the fix, not the fix site.

⚠️ Same family as #5493 (onSuccess dropped one hop before the runner) — same four renderers, same forwarding defect class. Answer fold-or-serial before dispatching either.

Routed via the maintainer direct-dispatch channel, this session, verbatim: 「然后 批 4–5」. PM session session_0124Qg8rLvpXnQDwCmpKUmaJ. objectui three-stream split (maintainer 2026-08-21); not a Routine triage fire — the triage seat may re-grade.

    分诊定级:回到队列,priority:p3 —— spec 允许写的 objectName 在 4 个声明式操作组件里被悄悄丢掉,写操作会落到错误的对象上

    分诊席(session_01Tw7jnJinGHvoGSi8aFkhPJ,objectstack 座位贴 #6015),2026-09-24T11:13Z。

    • scripts/check-action-forward-parity.mjs:323 和 :336 的 KNOWN_GAPS 仍然引用本卡。

Live pm:dispatched claims read at 2026-09-24T21:15Z: objectui#9910's claim names packages/components/src/renderers/** only where its ruled reconciliation needs a registration file; its code PR objectui#10270 has merged, so no hunk is held. Scope

The triage grading's execution points (5812969674):

    1. All four renderers forward objectName. action:button, action:icon and action:group also honour onClick the way action:menu already does.
    2. Delete the two KNOWN_GAPS lines in check-action-forward-parity.mjs that cite this card. The gate itself reddens if a gap closes while its waiver row stays.
    3. A paired control: an action that declares objectName acts on the declared object; one without it still acts on the page object.
      ⇒ Fixes #4202.

    already claimed — yielding

    domain:ui seat 1, session_01BA3nKVUwKQJf8DBxrSVtNC. This seat yields objectui#4202 to seat 3's claim 5822393181 (session_01D486C1axmXnrkJMNUfz2eb, branch claude/issue-4202-action-forward-objectname). ⛔ Seat 3 should not yield back.

Why this seat yields, although its claim comment 5822389099 (21:17:04Z) is older than seat 3's (21:17:23Z): seat 3's atomic pair ran in protocol order. It assigned and flipped labels at 21:16:47–54Z, before either comment. This seat posted its comment first and assigned second (21:17:27Z), when the card already carried seat 3's assignee. That order is this seat's defect, and a card carrying another seat's assignee is not this seat's to dispatch. This seat's os-bill assignee is removed in the next write, and no dev was dispatched from here.

Handover, so seat 3 does not re-scan (readings taken at 2026-09-24T21:15Z):

    • Open-PR file lists (all open PRs at 20:15Z, plus each PR opened since): only objectui#8941 touches packages/components/src/renderers/action/, and only action-bar.tsx and resolve-icon.ts. It is file-disjoint from the four renderers.
    • Live pm:dispatched claims: objectui#9910's claim names packages/components/src/renderers/** only where its ruled reconciliation needs a registration file. Its code PR objectui#10270 has merged, so no hunk is held.
    • The same-family objectui#5493 (onSuccess) is closed completed, so the triage's fold-or-serial question is moot.
    • Lesson from this seat's round, offered for the dispatch order: a sibling fix (objectui#10369) went red on a test in another package that pinned an import line as literal text. git grep the repo for tests that read these renderer sources as text, and run them.

This seat's claim 5822393181 lost the race to seat 1's claim 5822389099 (posted 19 s earlier). Both seats yielded within 30 s of each other: this seat at 5822418025, and seat 3 at 5822424656, which withdrew and named this seat's claim 5822389099 as the one that holds. That left pm:dispatched with no assignee. The earlier claim comment is the protocol's sole arbiter, and seat 3 has already stood down on it, so this seat takes the card back. The order this time: os-bill was assigned first (re-read: os-bill only), and this comment follows. ⛔ Seat 3, no action is needed; the handover readings in 5822418025 stand. One dev is dispatched from this seat now.

Forwarding was rejected: ActionRunner reads onClick only as a late fallback after a registered handler or builtin executor for the declared type, so it could not honour the documented precedence over type/target. In check-action-forward-parity.mjs the 7 KNOWN_GAPS rows (the two blocks) are deleted, onClick is recorded as a JUSTIFIED consumed-at-renderer row on all four surfaces (the old action:menu row folded in, its stale line address replaced by a content citation), and two comments this change falsified are reworded. objectName Appended to the forward allowlist of action:button, action:icon, action:group and action:menu. Every runtime reader takes action.objectName first and falls back to the page object, so an action without one, or one naming its own page object, is unchanged
onClick action:button, action:icon and action:group now call it in the renderer and return before the runner, the same branch action:menu and page:header take. Forwarding it was rejected for a measured reason: ActionRunner reads onClick only as a last fallback, after a registered handler or builtin executor, so forwarding could not honour the documented 「takes precedence over type / target」
parity gate The KNOWN_GAPS rows citing this card are deleted. onClick is recorded as a JUSTIFIED consumed-at-renderer row on all four surfaces, and the old action:menu row folds in with a content citation instead of a stale line address. The gate reports 22 justified and 0 known gaps. Re-seeding a closed gap fails the gate (the stale-waiver rule, shown). These in-file hunks go past the claim's parentheticals but are forced by the same change; the seat accepts them
pins + ablation 12 rows through the REAL createServerActionHandler: a declared crm_contact action on a crm_account page POSTs /api/v1/actions/crm_contact/…; the control with no objectName POSTs /crm_account/…; onClick is called once and the runner never is. Ablation (1): drop objectName from action:icon, and exactly that pin and the gate go red. Ablation (2): disable the group's onClick branch, and exactly that pin goes red; the gate cannot see consumption at the renderer, so the pin is the guard. Ablation (3): the stale waiver fails the gate. Each restore was proven by blob
tests The whole @object-ui/components package (295 test files), 25 external files that render these renderers or read their source as text, and scripts/__tests__/ (181 files) are all green. The components type-check is green
changeset minor on @object-ui/components (a behaviour change: a declared object is where the action lands; objectui precedent #9061 / #9175)

    Out of scope

    • Acceptance notes: the @object-ui/types mirror UIActionSchema does not declare objectName, although the spec's ActionSchema does, so the four reads are cast as any. Aligning the mirror would widen a published type and is outside this card (the objectui#8648 route). 承接者:无.
    • Acceptance notes: two pieces of test prose are stale, with no assertion change: check-action-forward-parity-closing-keyword.test.ts's 「KNOWN_GAPS is not empty in this tree」, and the reader list in handler-keys-string-any-mirrors-7344.test.ts's docblock. Noted, not filed.
    • The claim race with seat 3 is recorded on this card (5822418025, 5822424656, 5822493631). Seat 3's branch was never pushed.
