I would like a hook that runs git status after I open codex or run /new, to remind me if I have forgotten to commit my changes (Getting two sets of changes mixed up, is a real pain because you can't restore with git).
SessionStart runs only after the prompt is submitted, and its stdout is added to the context. I want the hook's stdout printed to the terminal (and not added to the model's context). I want the hook to run before I prompt.
Indexed this hook ticket in the umbrella tracker: #21753
Goal: collect the scattered Codex hook requests and bugs into one parity matrix for Full Claude Code Hook Parity (29+), while preserving this issue as the detailed thread for its specific behavior.
I'd like this too. Codex CLI rotates through stock greetings at startup. I'd prefer to use that space for something useful, such as a recent PR summary for the current repository.
Please support disabling the stock greeting, replacing it with custom text, or displaying output from a user-configured startup command or hook in its place. The output should be visible before submitting the first prompt, without requiring a model turn just to display it.
A brief summary of recent PR activity or the current branch's PR status would make this space useful every time I start a session.
Related: #30827 requests hiding the startup banner, and #49009 raises concerns about the greeting copy itself.
