Remaining limits and credits suddenly drop to zero #19536

Description

@zuuxuux

What issue are you seeing?

My Codex dashboard shows contradictory-looking quota state:

  • 5 hour usage limit: 100% remaining
  • Weekly usage limit: 0% remaining, resets Apr 28, 2026 7:21 PM
Image

Yesterday my weekly usage was not at zero (at about 50%, I had loads left so I wasn't paying attention throughout the day). It appeared to drop suddenly to zero despite only medium usage in between.

Separately, I previously had unused Codex credits. Those credits now appear to be gone, but the Codex usage dashboard does not show usage that explains where they went.

Account email: tfwnicholson@gmail.com
Plan: Pro
Approximate time weekly limit dropped: 25/4/26 9:00 BST
Approximate time credits disappeared: 25/4/26 9:00 BST
Codex surfaces used:desktop app
Codex usage page checked: chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage

What steps can reproduce the bug?

N/ A
This is a sudden dissapearence of credits and remaining limits

What is the expected behavior?

Experiencing the same issue. I have 6 separate Chrome profiles each logged into different accounts, and every single one of them shows 0 tokens used across all time windows — 24hr, weekly, monthly, and 90-day — simultaneously. This rules out a usage drain on any single account; something is clearly broken at the tracking/display layer.

The quota is not resetting either. All windows remain stuck at 0 available with no usage history to explain how they got there. The tool is completely unusable across all accounts.

    Setup:

    • 6 Chrome profiles, separate accounts each
    • All show 0 tokens used across all time windows (24hr / week / month / 90-day)
    • Codex surface: VS Code extension + Windsurf (Antigravity)
    • All accounts blocked with "quota reached" despite showing zero historical usage

This appears to be a backend tracking/display bug, not a legitimate usage exhaustion — identical zero-state across all accounts at the same time cannot be explained by actual usage.

Is there any update on a fix or a workaround? Is OpenAI support the right escalation path for this?

Could be related to the end of promotions not being correctly applied.

Recently, a 2x promotion ended, and my usage went from 60 to 20, today a 10x offer ended, and it went from 91% to ~ 7%.

It tracks with 40% usage becoming 80% and 9 becoming 90+%.

Currently on 20x. Seems to me this is likely unintended programming of the promos.

Additional current report (Sep 10, 2026): the ChatGPT Agentic usage / Weekly usage limit appears to have dropped unexpectedly from roughly 30% remaining to 0% remaining within a short period, despite the user not expecting the remaining allowance to be exhausted until much later.

Observed in the mobile Usage and limits screen:

    • Weekly usage limit: 0% remaining
    • Reset shown: Sat 23:05
    • Credits remaining: 0 Credits
    • Immediately beforehand, the weekly allowance was reported at approximately 30% remaining.

This looks very similar to the sudden-quota-depletion behavior described in this issue. Could the team please check the server-side usage ledger/metering for the shared agentic allowance (including Codex / ChatGPT Work where applicable), and whether delayed, duplicated, or incorrect rate-limit accounting could cause a sudden ~30% → 0% transition?

There is historical precedent for this class of failure: OpenAI Status previously tracked “Codex Usage Limits Depleting Faster Than Expected” in June 2026, where some affected accounts were incorrectly rate-limited.

A screenshot of the current 0%-remaining state is available if maintainers need it for follow-up.
