Latest Codex desktop update breaks Plugins page layout on macOS Intel #22096

Open

Description

@KenQian

Environment

  • Codex App: 26.506.31421
  • Build: 2620
  • Platform: macOS 12.7.6 (21H1320)
  • Architecture: x86_64 / Intel
  • Install source: latest Codex macOS x64 DMG

Summary

After upgrading Codex Desktop to the latest version, the Plugins page layout renders incorrectly. The page appears shifted/clipped: the hero area and plugin list/card content are partially blank, text is cut off, and only the right-side controls such as plus buttons remain visible in places.

This reproduces after reinstalling Codex. The issue appears similar to #18774, but still occurs on Codex App 26.506.31421.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install or upgrade to Codex App 26.506.31421 on macOS Intel.
  2. Open Codex.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins page.
  4. Observe the Plugins browse UI.

Expected

The Plugins page should render centered and fully visible, with the hero, search/filter controls, and plugin cards fitting within the window.

Actual

The Plugins page renders with large clipped/blank areas. Plugin cards are partially visible, with text cut off and controls floating on the right side.

    @aa371386337-afk

I’m seeing the same issue on Codex Desktop 26.513.20950 (build 2816).

    Environment:

    • macOS 15.7.5 (24G624)
    • Architecture: x86_64 / Intel
    • Codex Desktop: 26.513.20950 (2816)
    • Locale: zh-CN

    Symptoms:

    • Plugins marketplace page is clipped/shifted horizontally.
    • A large white / translucent / blurred layer covers much of the page.
    • The plugin search input remains visible, but plugin cards/content are partially hidden or shifted off screen.
    • The same overlay/clipping also appears in the composer “Skills” picker, so it is not limited to the Plugins page.

    Things I tried:

    • Fully quitting/reopening Codex
    • Clearing Codex Electron caches: Local Storage, Session Storage, Cache, Code Cache, GPUCache
    • Resetting onboarding state in ~/.codex/.codex-global-state.json
    • Setting AppleReduceTransparency=YES for com.openai.codex
    • Resetting AppleTextDirection / NSForceRightToLeftWritingDirection
    • Launching with GPU/backdrop filter disabled flags

None of the above fixed the issue.

    @xiangdaokong

I can confirm this issue is still reproducible on the latest Codex Desktop build after the recent updates.

    Environment:

    • Codex App: 26.519.41501
    • Build: 3044
    • macOS: 14.7.6 (23H626)
    • Architecture: x86_64 / Intel
    • Machine: MacBook Pro, MacBookPro15,2
    • CPU: Intel Core i5 2.3 GHz
    • Memory: 8 GB
    • GPU: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655, Metal supported

    Issue:
The Plugins page still renders incorrectly on Intel macOS. Large white/blank areas cover the content, plugin cards/text are clipped or shifted, and only partial UI elements are visible. The page looks like the layout/compositor is miscalculating horizontal positioning or scaling.

This is not isolated to one machine. Another Intel MacBook from a friend shows the same broken Plugins page rendering.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Open Codex Desktop on an Intel Mac.
    2. Go to the Plugins page.
    3. Observe that the plugin marketplace content is clipped/shifted with large blank white areas.
    4. Updating to Codex 26.519.41501 does not resolve the issue.

    Expected:
The Plugins page should render normally, with the hero area, search controls, and plugin cards fully visible and aligned.

    Actual:
The page is partially blank/clipped. Plugin text and cards are shifted off-screen or obscured, making the Plugins page hard to use.

    Additional note:
This appears related to Intel macOS rendering/scaling/compositor behavior. Issue #21865 mentions that launching with --force-device-scale-factor=1 can work around the plugin marketplace clipping, which suggests a device scale factor / HiDPI / Electron Chromium layout issue.

Please prioritize this for Intel Mac users. Even though these are older Macs, they are still supported by the Codex x64 build and the app currently advertises macOS Intel compatibility.

    @ArtherHb

Adding another affected environment for this same Plugins page layout/rendering issue.

    Environment

    • Codex App: 26.519.41501
    • Build: 3044
    • Platform: macOS 26.5 (25F71)
    • Architecture: x86_64
    • App bundle: /Applications/Codex.app

    Observed behavior

The Plugins page is still rendering incorrectly on this version. The center/left portion of the plugin marketplace content is covered by a large blank foreground region, while parts of the plugin cards remain visible on the right. In dark mode the blank region appears as a black block; in light mode it appears as a white block.

This makes the Plugins page partially unusable: plugin card content is clipped/hidden, text is cut off, and controls/content appear shifted behind the blank overlay.

    Attempts already made

    • Restarted Codex
    • Reinstalled Codex
    • Switched from dark mode to light mode

The issue persists after all of the above.

    Notes

This looks like the same rendering/layout regression described here, but it still reproduces on Codex App 26.519.41501 / build 3044. Screenshots from both dark and light mode are available from the affected machine if useful.
