[bug] VS Code Codex chats not appearing under Projects in macOS app #28700

Closed

Description

@singularitti

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.611.61753

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Plus

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

Chats created from the official Codex VS Code extension do not appear in the Projects view of the Codex macOS desktop app, even when the chat was started from a specific project folder.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open any project folder in VS Code.
  2. Start a chat from that folder using the official Codex VS Code extension.
  3. Send a few messages in that chat.
  4. Open the Codex macOS app.
  5. In the sidebar, click Projects.
  6. Sort chats using:
    • Organize sidebar → By project, or
    • Organize sidebar → Recent projects
  7. Observe that the VS Code-created chat does not appear under the corresponding project.
  8. Switch to Chronological list.
  9. Observe that the chat does appear there.

What is the expected behavior?

A chat created from VS Code while a folder is open should appear in the Codex macOS app under a project named after that folder.

For example, if I start a chat while working in /path/to/my-project, the chat should appear under a project called my-project.

If a chat is started without any folder context, it should be placed under Chats, where non-project chats are collected.
