Feature: session groups with named presets & config (Codex IDE extension) #2991

Closed

Description

@Yish-AI

What feature would you like to see?

Enable defining “session groups” in the IDE extension. A group pairs a custom name with settings like reasoning_effort and mode.

User flow / design:

  • “Create group” → name + settings (reasoning_effort: low|med|high, mode: Chat|Agent|Agent-Full)
  • Start session → pick group → auto-apply settings
  • Manage groups: list, rename, delete, reassign session
  • Data persists across IDE restarts & reboots

Why it matters:
Current CLI supports named sessions, but the IDE doesn’t. Grouping cuts context-switch friction, enforces presets per workflow, and syncs IDE & CLI experience.

Are you interested in implementing this feature?

    We are working on a few things around surfacing the config.toml in the extension which should help here.
