“Fork from here” / “Truncate from here” on any message in the Codex VS Code extension. #3005

Closed as duplicate

Description

@hopenjin

What feature would you like to see?

Could you add two actions to any message in the chat history?

  1. Truncate from here: remove all subsequent messages in the current conversation and continue from that point.
  2. Fork from here: create a new conversation from that message (keeping all history up to it), while leaving the original thread intact.

    What would you expect to happen to your codebase if you did that? Would you expect the code to be reverted to whatever it was at that point? If so, what if you also made changes in parallel?

    I'm assuming this would not involve rolling back the code @gpeal. For example if you are familiar with the Cline tool, when rolling back it gives the option to reset files and/or reset conversation separately. This feature request and similar ones seem to be leaning towards just resetting the conversation rather than the file state (which generally is a harder problem anyways)
