Add /multitask command for Codex subagents #30799

Description

What variant of Codex are you using?

CLI and IDE Extension

What feature would you like to see?

Please add a native /multitask command to Codex CLI and IDE Extension.

Codex already supports subagents, but there is no simple built-in command like Cursor's multitask.

Example:

/multitask Implement a feature, explore the codebase, add tests, and review the final diff.

Expected behavior:

  • spawn several subagents in parallel
  • one agent explores the codebase
  • one agent implements the change
  • one agent writes or updates tests
  • one agent reviews the final diff
  • Codex returns one final summary

Suggested modes:

  • /multitask --plan
  • /multitask --implement
  • /multitask --review

This would make subagents much easier to use. Right now users need to write long prompts every time, or create local custom prompts.

The feature already exists conceptually through subagents, but it needs a simple UX command.

Current workaround: users can manually ask Codex to spawn subagents, or create local custom prompts. But a native /multitask command would be much more discoverable and convenient for daily coding work.

This is related to #29264, but my request is more specific.

#29264 asks for broader multi-agent and tool integration.

This issue is specifically about adding a simple built-in UX command:

    /multitask

The goal is to make existing Codex subagent workflows easier to use, similar to Cursor's multitask command.

    Expected behavior:

    • user runs /multitask
    • Codex automatically spawns explorer / implementer / tester / reviewer agents
    • Codex waits for all agents
    • Codex returns one final summary

So this is not a request for a new agent architecture, but a discoverable slash command for the existing subagent workflow.
