Weekly usage reset date changed unexpectedly after subscribing to ChatGPT Plus #30816
Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Version 26.623.81905 • Released 1 lip 2026
What subscription do you have?
Plus
What platform is your computer?
Windows 10 Home 22H2 19045.7417
What issue are you seeing?
After subscribing to ChatGPT Plus, I noticed what appears to be an issue with the weekly usage limit reset date.
When I first purchased the subscription (about four days ago), I clearly saw that my weekly usage limit would reset on July 3. Since I rely on ChatGPT for ongoing work, I planned my usage around that date and started using my weekly quota accordingly.
Today, when I checked my remaining quota (around 5% left), I noticed that the weekly reset date had unexpectedly changed to July 7.
There was no notification or explanation that the reset date had changed, so this came as a complete surprise.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Feedback ID: no-active-thread-019f1d37-8d4e-7f22-a829-bad87442d512
What is the expected behavior?
The weekly reset date should remain consistent once it has been shown to the user, or, if it needs to change for some reason, the UI should clearly explain why.
Actual behavior
The weekly usage reset date changed from July 3 to July 7 after I had already planned my usage based on the originally displayed date.
As a result, instead of waiting only a couple more days, I now have to wait almost an additional week before my quota resets.
Steps to reproduce
Unfortunately, I don't know the exact trigger.
What happened was:
Subscribe to ChatGPT Plus.
Check the Usage page and note the weekly reset date (in my case it showed July 3).
Use ChatGPT normally over the next few days.
Return to the Usage page later.
Observed result: the weekly reset date had changed to July 7 without any explanation.
Additional information
This issue is particularly frustrating because I planned my work around the reset date that was originally displayed.
I have several projects that depend on ChatGPT, and I'll be leaving for work on July 12, so I carefully calculated my usage expecting the quota to reset on July 3.
Instead, I discovered the change only after my weekly quota had already dropped to around 5%, leaving me with almost no capacity and several additional days to wait.
I'm not sure whether this is a UI bug or a backend issue with the usage tracking, but the behavior is confusing and can significantly affect users who plan their work based on the displayed reset date.
I've attached screenshots showing the current usage page and the reset information.

This is happening to me too. I subscribed to pro on July 9. Initially my reset day for the weekly limit was July 16. Makes sense, that is seven days.
The next day it said my weekly reset day is July 17.
The next day, July 18. Yesterday it said my weekly reset was July 19. And now (on July 13), it says July 20.
It looks like: 'today + seven days' rather than 'period start + seven days'.

This is not a third-party report or an assumption. I personally documented the reset date moving from July 17 to July 18 and then to July 19 on my own account, and I have screenshots supporting this timeline.

I am experiencing the same automatic weekly reset issue.
Important clarification:
The manual Full reset itself worked correctly when I used it.
The actual bug is that the automatic weekly allowance did not reset as displayed, and the automatic reset timestamp kept moving forward.
Environment:
Observed timeline:
July 20, 2026 at 09:33:07:
July 20, 2026 at 09:47:11:
During an elapsed interval of 14 minutes and 4 seconds, the displayed automatic reset timestamp moved forward by approximately 14 minutes instead of counting down toward a fixed reset time.
I also previously observed the automatic reset date moving from July 24 to July 25 and then July 26, without the weekly allowance automatically restoring.
All requested troubleshooting has been completed:
The issue persisted in every environment.
Because the automatic weekly reset did not occur as displayed, I had to manually use one available Full reset in order to continue working.
The manual Full reset worked correctly and restored usage.
The problem is that I should not have been forced to consume a manual reset because the automatic weekly reset failed to occur and its displayed timestamp kept moving forward.
Please investigate:

I am experiencing the same issue. When I launch the Codex App from a fresh start, the weekly reset time appears to be recalculated based on the timestamp of the first prompt submitted after startup. The app retains the previous usage percentage but extends the reset date by approximately seven days from that first prompt.
However, if I keep the same Codex session open and continue using it without closing or restarting the app, the displayed reset date does not change. This suggests that the issue may be triggered by a fresh application launch and the first prompt submitted in the newly started session.

Having the same issue, used codex for 1 prompt after upgrading on July 26, reset date was Aug 2, didn't use it for 3 days and now the reset date is Aug 5 and the usage is at 100%. So I restored 1% of usage but instead of consuming my quota freely from now to Aug 2, I now have to be more careful to cover until Aug 5.

It is a lot worse than described here. Every extra reset moves the needle by 7 full days. API and UI. However, this is not the TRUE date and time, which still relies on when you started the plan. And even that MOVES. Normally it was Tuesday 7pm for many weeks, even in case Codex showed Thursday, Friday or whatever else. Then it shifted to Tuesdays 10pm. Still not shown. At some point it went to Wednesday mornings. Right now Codex shows me even August 8. I know it is a blunt lie. What I don't know is when my REAL reset time will be, and this should freak a lot more users out.
On top of this, praising 5.6 Sol as a 1.5M context window model, giving us 370k tokens tops in Codex. Then reducing it to ridiculously tiny 258k tokens, and never even restoring that. For me: compaction, context recovery, 134k tokens GONE, 124k left for the real work. re-read skills and repeat.

I too have experienced what everyone is describing here.
Edit: Suddenly has 98% quota now?

Same family of problem, different symptom. Yours is the reset date moving without explanation; mine is that purchasing a new billing period does not reset the window at all, and checkout does not say so.
My window opened Aug 12 at 11:29 PM while the account was on Pro. Pro ended Aug 16 with the window already spent. I bought Plus on Aug 17 ($20, period Aug 17 to Sep 17). The window reset Aug 19 at 11:29 PM, on its original schedule. Roughly 2.5 days of a paid month with zero agent capacity.

Your own framing covers the fix for both cases: the reset behavior should either stay consistent, or be explained in the UI before it costs someone money.

Additional controlled evidence from a ChatGPT Pro Lite account using Codex CLI 0.147.0 on Windows (timestamps are Europe/Prague, CEST).
I observed the same reset-date reassignment while the weekly window was already active and partially consumed:
The displayed reset moved forward by 15 hours 12 minutes without a corresponding allowance restoration. Because the allowance had already dropped to 98% on August 12, this was not an unused window waiting for its first post-reset request; the window was already active and being consumed.
I also captured an earlier independent occurrence:
Again, usage decreased continuously rather than returning to 100%, while the displayed weekly reset moved forward.
Expected behavior: once a weekly window is activated and partially consumed, its reset timestamp should remain stable until that window ends, or the UI/API should expose the server-side event and reason that reassigned it.
I have timestamped screenshots for both comparisons and can provide sanitized crops if useful.
