What issue are you seeing?

Dictation in ChatGPT Android : 👍

Dictation in ChatGPT on Android is rock solid.
I've used it for many months and it has always worked great.
I've dictated extremely long messages and it always handles them great.
If there's ever an app glitch or other issue, the dictation feature always recovers gracefully.
The resulting dictation text is always shown even if there's an issue so that I can copy the text and maybe restart the app if needed.

Dictation in codex on ChatGPT on Android...

The dictation with codex through ChatGPT on Android is another story.
When it works, yes, it works great.
But a few times a day it glitches out.

Examples
  • After submitting the dictation, the input widget disappears
  • During dictation, it will spontaneously stop listening and revert to the blank input widget
Suggestion
  • If there's ever an issue with the connection to the remote codex, always preserver the resulting dictation text to allow the user to send later.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Use dictation a bunch of times in codex on ChatGPT Android.
Eventually the issue happens.

What is the expected behavior?

Make dictation with codex on Android as stable and reliable as dictation with ChatGPT Android.

    I can reproduce a more specific and seemingly deterministic variant of this bug in the ChatGPT Android app.

    Environment

    • ChatGPT Android app: 1.2026.188
    • Android 16
    • Device: CPH2767
    • Codex Remote session opened from the Remote tab

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Open an active Codex session from the ChatGPT Android app's Remote tab.
    2. Tap the microphone icon for speech-to-text dictation (not Voice Mode).
    3. Record some text and wait for transcription to finish.
    4. The entire Remote composer/input field disappears, leaving only the session

    I can reproduce a stronger version of this on Android in Codex Remote.

    Observed behavior

    • Voice dictation works normally in a regular ChatGPT chat on the same Android device.
    • In the Codex Remote composer, Gboard voice dictation stops after roughly 1–2 seconds, even while I am continuously speaking.
    • This is not just the ChatGPT/Codex microphone UI: the same premature stop happens when using Gboard's microphone inside the Codex Remote input field.

    Reproduction

    1. Open a normal ChatGPT chat on Android and start Gboard voice dictation: it continues normally.
    2. Open a Codex Remote thread.
    3. Focus the Codex Remote input field and start Gboard voice dictation.
    4. Keep speaking continuously.
    5. Dictation terminates after about 1–2 seconds.

    Expected behavior
    Gboard dictation should remain active while the user is speaking, just as it does in a normal ChatGPT composer.

    Because the same Gboard dictation works in regular ChatGPT but immediately stops in the Codex Remote input field, this appears specific to the Codex Remote composer / Android IME integration rather than microphone permissions or silence detection.
