   I’m seeing the same regression after the Codex app was merged into the ChatGPT app. The previous standalone Codex app ran smoothly on this same machine; this started only within the last 1–2 days after the latest update.

   Environment

   • App: ChatGPT app (Codex tab)
   • Version: 26.707.51957 (released Jul 12, 2026)
   • macOS: 26.4.1 (25E253)
   • Machine: MacBook Pro (Mac15,6)
   • Chip: Apple M3 Pro, 11 CPU cores
   • Memory: 18 GB

   Observed behavior

   After using the app for a short period, essentially all UI interactions can become delayed by approximately 5–6 seconds:

   • Hover effects on buttons appear several seconds late.
   • Clicking the model selector or opening other popups takes several seconds to display.
   • Typed text does not appear in the composer until roughly 5–6 seconds after typing.
   • Opening the Chat panel and switching between normal task threads/conversations are particularly noticeable triggers.
   • Opening a /side chat initially produces the same 5–6 second typing/input-rendering delay.
   • Switching conversations or triggering certain popups can retrigger the problem.

   A possibly useful detail: in both normal task threads and side chats, the composer eventually recovers after approximately one minute. For example, immediately after opening /side, typed text appears with a 5–6 second delay, but after roughly a minute it begins updating live again as I type. Switching conversations or opening some popups can put it back into the laggy state.

   Restarting the app restores normal responsiveness, but only temporarily; the slowdown returns after a few minutes, apparently without one consistent trigger. The rest of the Mac remains responsive while the app UI is lagging.

   Expected behavior

   UI events, popups, hover states, thread switching, and composer input should update immediately, as they did in the standalone Codex app before the Codex/ChatGPT merge.

   This may be related to #18693 because the symptoms overlap (typing lag, delayed UI updates, and slow thread switching), but the timing seems different: #18693 predates this regression, while this behavior began for me only after the latest Codex/ChatGPT merged-app update, and the delays are more severe.
