Windows desktop 26.707.9981.0 hangs after loading serialport.node — missing napi_module_register #33460
The ChatGPT Codex Windows desktop app renders and briefly accepts input, then stops accepting clicks about 5–7 seconds after launch. Reinstalling the Microsoft Store package and the official web installer does not help.
The current module handle resolves to ChatGPT.exe, where the requested export is absent.
The main process imports the Codex Micro service dynamically, but the renderer mounts the Codex Micro bridge and calls getState() on normal startup even when no Codex Micro hardware is present.
Attempts that did not help
App reload and Windows restart
Clearing only disposable Chromium UI state
Disabling GPU and GPU compositing
Disabling optional browser/computer-use features
Microsoft Store repair/reinstall
Full uninstall followed by the official website installer
Confirmed workaround
Install OpenAI's official signed offline MSIX version 26.707.3351.0. It remains responsive beyond the failure window, records no Application Error 1000 event, loads existing conversations, and accepts real navigation clicks.
I also verified the extracted MSIX with Get-AuthenticodeSignature before installing it; Windows reported Status: Valid, and the manifest version was 26.707.3351.0.
The URL appears intended as a rolling offline-distribution endpoint, so verify the header or extracted manifest before installing in case OpenAI replaces its contents later.
Also note the newer maintainer update in #33375: OpenAI has temporarily disabled the affected feature on Windows and recommends restarting after allowing time for the configuration to propagate. I would try that first before downgrading.

Could you please share where you obtained the official signed offline MSIX build OpenAI.Codex_26.707.3351.0?
I am experiencing the same crash with version 26.707.9981.0 and exception code 0xc06d007f, but I can't find the MSIX version 26.707.3351.0.

@cbcylqjf I obtained it directly from OpenAI's official Windows deployment documentation, under Deploy without Microsoft distribution services:
This is not a third-party mirror. The ZIP contains the Store-signed offline MSIX plus its license/provisioning files.
As of 2026-07-16, a HEAD request to that official archive still reports:
I also verified the extracted MSIX with
